Death Star's value on ebay.de decreased by at least 50-70€. There are actually 8 auctions with a buy-it-now option for ~550€. One month ago, most of them were sold for 600€. Do people fear, that the new DS will be far better than this one...? Or a result of this set's 8 years lifetime....?

You noticed that too, right? I´ve been looking at my sold new items filter over the weekend and I can see an upturn in sales of the popular retired exclusives (Tumbler, Red, modulars, DS, R2) but that has come at the price of a general downturn in sold prices (a lot of auctions and buy now best offer accepted).

Conclusion, the demand is out there but the price has to be reasonable. We have one good month of sales left until the Easter holidays and then there will be a notable decline in demand until late Autumn so I guess those who are carrying too much stock and want to cash in are sellling now.

Interestingly, other recently retired sets like Seacow, ToO, SW, Lonely Mountain are not moving at all.

as i said several times here: this set is risky if you expect big cash and if you bought without nice discounts...

many many used sets, many horded sets, the set with IMHO the highest probability of a refresh in the star wars universe (and there IS a rumour already...). not a good combo.

i know that many people don´t want to hear this... and I am sure that I´m being bashed so again :D

Yep. Hopefully the new set isn't cutout scenes. I'd rather see a full, perfect Death Star or the damaged Death Star II. Then investors of this set win and collectors get something a little different with the new version.

The rumor was out long before 10188 went away...

MF UCS has much higher chance of refresh than death star. Also i think the rumor may be for a star killer base rather than death star.

And even if there is a new death star set, it will probably be at much higher price per piece, as seen in recent large sets such as UCS assault on Hoff and batcave.

Nobody wants to hear or believe it but it is what it is and in 6 short months we will all get to see 75159. Brickset has it tagged UCS and Empire. Just2good described it as a bigger and better 10188. It will not be Starkiller Base, but will it be a 10188 rehash?

Exactly why some of us chose to sell out for double money at the peak in mid Jan.

Still not a believer in this.

You had to be in it to win it!

I got one I paid $330 for. Been used as a table in my office for the last 3 years, I'll sell it when I get a new table. So so so so glad I didn't go crazy and deep on these despite everyone telling me it was a sure thing to hit $1000 easy and would be a huge winner.

Sounds like a smart tactic to keep round-the-table team meetings short.

They make quite good armrests for a folding bed but then you would need 2!

IMO it is only the effect of Ebay's (at least ebay.de) latest campaign... 3€ in fees only for all your sales instead of 10%. That is what made lots of "special sellers" think to lower their prices by large amounts. *sigh*

Starkiller base rumor

Another blog claims reliable rumour about UCS starkiller base. I think this is more likely compared to another rehash of 10188 since episode 7 did really well in box office.

Two questions regarding this:

1) aren't UCS sets typically reserved for something a little more...iconic in nature? I honestly don't know the answer to this, but to create a UCS on something as fresh as the Starkiller Base seems a little premature.

2) has there ever been a rehash of a UCS to date? Again I do not know the answer but am curious.

if neither one of these seems true, then perhaps the next UCS is something else entirely?

Thanks for that. In that riveting article about a Starkiller Base rumor he says "Starkiller Base" four times & says "actually" four times. No need for me to ever go to that site again...

Well, the guy over at Groove Bricks was the first to talk about the UCS Hoth Rebel Base before anyone else did.

Also, with the lack of Force Awakens sets this year during the winter and summer wave, I think the movie would be due for a UCS type set.  I wouldn't be shocked if the "Death Star" is based on Rogue One, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's Starkiller Base.  Either way, Groove Bricks does have a history of announcing things that turn out true, but during the process being ridiculed by many.  I choose to think the history is there with this site to take some of what he says as having a solid potential of actually happening.

Have you guys seen the movie? Starkiller UCS isn't happening.

A new DS is happening. Will it be better than the original? That remains to be seen. If it's just a moderate update to 10188 with modern building techniques and minifigs, it's going to crush anyone hoarding this set. If it's completely revamped and looks like the classic Batcave or Attack on Hoth, 10188 is gonna destroy planets.

At this point with the incredible lack of creativity Lego has shown lately, I would expect a re-release of 10188 with new minifigures...

To be fair, the company can't be too creative with licensed material. The licensed sets have to be based on the movies/TV shows. On the other hand, there are much creativity in ninjago, nexo knights, chima, creator and even some friends sets. Yet AFOL are not lapping up on these sets, while demanding creativity on licensed themes ... the irony.

Why would lego give up on making a starkiller base in the same style as 10143?
