Went in and picked up a Death Star and Tumbler today.  One of the girls asked me as I walked in if she could help me or if I was looking for something in particular and I pointed at the DS.  As I was walking out, she noticed the Tumbler and remarked about buying it too.  I said that I had to get one of each as they're both marked as retiring soon and I didn't want to be left without one.  She said the Tumbler isn't marked yet, but the DS will be retired at the end of the year.  She did remark that it was supposed to be retired at year-end last year, but that didn't happen obviously, but they've been told not to expect any more.

Is there a way to tell how many DS are left on Amazon.com?

If there were, pretty sure the qty available would now = 0.

(I guess technically you could create X dummy accounts, each with its own legitimate but expired/insufficient funds CC info and mailing address, and start ordering Death Stars knowing they'd never be filled. But if you have the resources to do this you're probably too busy staying a few steps ahead of the FBI.)

Why do you say 0?  It's still showing as available on Amazon right now and usually when it gets low, it says "only x left in stock, order soon"

I'm saying if there were an easy way to gauge the number remaining, there would be a rush to acquire as many copies as possible. "We have more than 20 left" is a lot more nebulous than "There are only 521 520 519 518 MSRP 10188s left in the wild". The latter number may be much higher than 20, but it's still more motivating, as it would be close to definitive and ever-shrinking.

I see what you're saying... I misread what you originally said.  Yeah I think if it said 20 left or whatever number, people would be placing orders to make sure they got one and it would be gone quickly

More rumors that the new UCS set is based on TFA.

"According to one of our readers who goes by the name of Dan, a LEGO Star Wars UCS Starkiller Base set is actually in the works right now and it scheduled to be released in 2016. Based on what he told us, this new set will be quite massive with roughly 4,000 pieces. There is no word on what the actual set looks like, however, it’s possible to assume two possible routes this set can take. First, this Starkiller base could be a playset that goes along the lines of the 10188 Death Star. The second option is that it is actually a UCS set with a complex design such as the 10143 Death Star II. Hopefully it’s the latter of these two.

From what I can tell, Dan seems to have a reliable source since he was also told about the new UCS Snowspeeder, which we just wrote an article about. That set was confirmed to be real thanks to the Brickset Database. If he was right about one set, then he’s probably right about the other."

Since it's a snow planet, is the rumored UCS Hoth set one and the same?

"This is pure snow! It's everywhere! Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?"

Brickset has it listed as "Assault on Hoth", a Snowspeeder, and "The Death Star".

I'm kind of convinced there will be a both rebel base similar to ewok village.  A UCS Snowspeeder (from Empire), and a new Death Star for Rogue One.

That's my opinion, and i'm sticking to it.  I don't know how they could properly pull off making a lego set out of a planet.

^ Agreed. A death star type set of Starkiller Base would be a waste. The weapon only takes up a small slice of the planet. The rest would just be plain planet. Boring and a waste of money.

This thread is tiny compared to the one over on Brickset that has been talking about this set forever...

I am not referring to the size of this thread or to the number of posts. I am referring to the amount of DS's we are all buying.

Yay, now the bleeding can stop and the battle to recoup your investment begins. Have fun. I am going to go pop a bag of popcorn.

You might be hearing about F5's for the next 3 months.
