So is anyone afraid that Death Star UCS that is supposed to come out in 2016 will destroy future value of 10188?

Let us see we could have

- Half a Death Star 1977 updated doll house appear

- Half a Death Star 1977 updated super detailed expert collector's set appear

- A full Death Star 1977 updated doll house appear

- A full Death Star 1977 updated super detailed expert collector's set appear

- A full Star Killer Death Star 2015 super detailed expert collector's set appear

I am sticking with my original prediction the death star is done:

- Death Star 10188 .... All 1977 variations

Long Live the Death Star:

- A full Star Killer Death Star 2015 detailed expert collector's set will be released

I think the old Death Star is going to be gold

that being said

NEVER invest more than you would put in a stock market with international risk equity investments

IE I am not telling anyone to buy the 10188 I could be very wrong.  But it is what I personally believe and am choosing to do.

My Death Star from SAH ordered during 2x VIP finally shipped today after talking to CS a couple days ago.

I had thought i was banned, all of my orders in the past 2 months have been cancelled. The rep informed me my account was flagged and she would escalate the "review". She also alluded to the fact that I hadn't ordered many "high risk" items, such as the Death Star, that it should be fine and mentioned orders on high ticket items can take 2-3 days to be approved.

Take it for what it is.. but i would be wary of surpassing limits on big ticket items as it appears they are monitoring the purchases.

My guess is that it won't be based on the Star Killer. That just seems too risky and a lot of eggs to put in the basket of ship no one's really familiar with yet. You have to give it time for pop-culture to embrace it and indicate what it is people love about it before you can put out a UCS set. Obviously Lego sets can only have so much detail so TLG needs to make sure they're including the right things. Otherwise in 6 months people will be saying "I'd buy the Star Killer but I can't believe they left out  _____?!?!?"

From my point of view it seems safer to release an upgraded UCS DS geared toward AFOL from the OT which you already know people will buy. Then down the road, once you're sure the Star Killer has become an iconic ship and you know what it is they love about it, you roll a UCS version of that.

My gut tells me one of these sets that people think will be a UCS set based on the Original Trilogy (Death Star, Hoth, Snowspeeder) will indeed be a UCS set based on the new movie(s).  People want new and have new ideas to work off of, so why not take advantage of the new movie buzz?

I'll agree that kids want the new stuff, hence 10188 is now retiring (and look out EV). But I think most AFOL want things they've grown to love and trigger nostalgic feelings, especially at the price point that would justify "bigger and better" (if you believe Just2good).  So if this new "bigger and better" DS is indeed from the new movie then I'd expect it would have to be a playset and not a UCS because I think you still have to wait for the AFOLs to fall in love. But is there even a market for a >$400 playset? That seems like a tough sell to get your parents on board. But an enormous $599 DS based of the OT? I bet there's a market for that for while you wait for AFOL to fall in love with new content.  We'll find out soon enough :)

People might even forget about the original trilogy and jaisonline will be the last remnant of the drum beaters.

Don't or won't?

Early reviews were pretty positive (from what I've read today) so I think there will be ample demand for large UCS type sets from TFA onwards, and it makes sense to have a couple (or more) in TLGs exclusive rotation over the next several years. I have trouble imagining that kids - and their parents - that like the new movies aren't going to want the toys associated with them. I saw the Black Series TFA Tie Fighter and thought it was cool. I'll be looking for that on sale.

In a couple of days, the old movies will...look...well...old.

Spoiler

They've looked old since about 1995....

P.S. The best part about a new movie is you can say whatever you want about the OT with impunity in these spoiler boxes because no one that cares is gonna open them for at least two days :D

Hate to break it to you guys but this thing should be sold out everywhere at this point.  The Star Wars hype is in full force.  If it's still available on Amazon this upcoming Monday (with Christmas less than a week away) then I would be a little worried about it's aftermarket potential.  Just an opinion.

I'm willing to bet the horde has their fill and they are moving on to other sets.  There is no way to know how much stock Shop at Home or Amazon has.  Could be thousands of units to move.  That doesn't happen quickly, especially for a $400 set to end consumers with a limit of 1.

I wouldn't be surprised if this vanishes quickly by the end of January / early February when those with dispensable income start spending their year end bonuses and tax returns.  Time is probably running out if you don't have one.
