I finally gave in and reserved 4 at Smyths Toys (Reading) where the manager agreed to sell me the last 4 in the area for £1000 (just ask!) for click & collect next Tuesday as 3 have to come from another store. However, I'll reject on the spot if box(es) are at all damaged. You lot had better be right, I only pulled the trigger as I didn't want to be the only one here left with his pants down. I could've gone in bigger but, I basically want the profit from 3 to pay for the one in my collection. But, I still see little mojo in this set.

Tabby. On another site you've mentioned a small Czech outlet connected to Lego will start to produce any Lego set that has ever been produced. I'm not sure if you said this to scare people off but would like to know more. Won't it effect any kind of Lego investment?

I've never built it but I have one stashed away for my 3 year old son in ~7 years. 2022 should be a great Christmas! (Unless it turns out he doesn't like Lego in which case Christmas is canceled)

In 7 years you could sell that one set an buy the entire current Star Wars lineup. Son: do you want this one old but awesome set, or do you want all 12 of the Star Wars sets in this years catalog? Good problem to have!

I just wanna say I love this set, building it with my wife was a great experience. Seeing kids playing with the set for hours on end without having any knowledge of the OT makes me wonder how they will experience it when they're old enough to see the movies. During the build of course I had several flashbacks. Yes I own several, yes I will make a decent profit. But to me that's not the most important when it comes to Lego SW.

You overstate the reliability of this sites brickfolio. I don't know a single big time investor that keeps a brickfolio up to date. The small guys sure, but if you have 50K, 100K, 200K+ in Lego you don't have time or the need to update a brickfolio. I would be confident stating that the brickfolio more closely represents the small investor, which will not be hording 10188 like the big boys.

i added almost 10k in my brickfolio within the last month..just sayin

Anyone spot that new box yet?

Don't you remember? The new box design has been available in stores since the beginning of October -- https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=944305

You should know since you posted the link :P

Also, I'm not sure how Mudcatsfan got back through the dimensional portal in the Montreal Lego store but he even posted a picture of the box...

I'm really not sure what all the EOL hype is about.

Well, I just took advantage of that 2xVIP and bought another DS.  I figure, why not.  Now, I sit at 2 (yes, nothing compared to some people)… none of which are opened, and i'm not opening any until the new one comes out.  Then I'll make the call to either open one of these, or buy the new one and hold these as investment sets.

I've sort of convinced myself that the new death star will not be like this one, and since this one is VERY MUCH as OT as it gets, it might do just fine and not be as vastly affected by the new one.  Just watching the 2014 sets fly out of the gate was all it took to convince me.  Heck, even that UCS DS2 model, which I think is kind of boring is now sitting for 2700 on amazon, and that one has nothing really to it.  So, we've already seen what happens when another DS is in the mix.  They end up going into the thousands when they retire.

Guest TabbyBoy

If any of you live near Reading (UK) be quick as I've just returned the ones I just bought to Smyths Toys as all the seals were starting to peel making them worthless to fussy UK re-buyers. I think these boxes may have been stored in damp conditions for a while. Apart from the seals, boxes are OK but, not perfect. I was going to keep one to build but, I can't really stand the set to be honest.

I'm not worried as they'll be back in their thousands soon enough.
