I never bought one of these till the Summer. Not that i thought it was a bad set or had been out too long, but deep down i knew it was an all time Classic Lego set and i would probably never sell them.

Same thing with the SSD, i know for sure they will still be there in 10 years unopened , i just know it :)

Death Star is dead ! (ahem really EOL, no joke)

http://search-en.lego.com/?q=lego+10188&cc=UK

At Lego SAH (check link above or double-check), the 10188 Death Star is labelled as ... " SOLD OUT  " !!!

In German "Ausverkauft".

I might be a bloody newbie, please enlighten me, but it really think ...

This was it, guys!! (and girls I hope)

Have I missed something? Qasn't there on official funeral ceremony, a minute of silence (and appraisal) to the set with the longest production run in history?

In case I am right, this post may serve as a root (starting point) for the official (well non-lego) EOL message and celebration procedure.

Everyone who picked up at least one: Congratulations! The force is strong in you.

Everyone who didn't: Sorry for you, but it's only money!

This is the time where you can hunt down a few in some backwater shops, but online it now starts at 499 Euro ...

Anyone takes a bet when 700 / 800 / 1k will be reached ?

Greetings from Germany

Really is 400 that much to invest in a set?  I don't think so.  4000 for 10?  Less than a Roth IRA.  Returns?  Who knows...that's part of the fun.  If you don't have the money to invest dont go around pouting, let the ones that do make the bad or good investment.  In other words, take it or leave it and move on.

I got a bit burned by Red 5 as well.  Like I said, LEGO did us no favors by extending the life of that one.  I think they are making up for it be selling out of all of these non-exclusive sets right before the new movie comes out though.  Holy mass retirement Batman!

Not sure that all the sold out tags means they are gone for good. I would proceed with caution on that. It is the holidays- some of these sold out sets could be back...

1. Every kid I know loves star wars, and more love the OT than the prequel stuff. I don't hear a single complaint about effects after the question "why does it look like that"? is answered by something along the lines of "well, they did this without computers (as kids know them) 30 years ago". Kids aren't as uppity about things as... say... AFOL resellers.

Now, there is a possibility (hope) that Ep 7-9 will blow away both previous trilogies in terms of both story and effects, but that will still bring the OT along to an extent in terms of new fan appreciation (much more so than Ep 1-3).

2. (Millennium Falcon + Death Star + 3*X-Wing + Star Destroyer + TIE Fighter^2) * Darth Vader * the square root of Lightsabers = Star Wars. (With the dark horse AT-AT vying for a spot lately)

This is one of the "golden" sets, and if you were surprised by 9493, 9492, or 7965 last year, you better not be one of those surprised by 10188, or it's time to find a new hole to flush your money down.

I too am curious how many of these are out there (mainly in warehouses of people who are "too big" for this site), but I bet it's not enough.

$600 already happened with the false alarm last summer.

$800 won't take a year.

$1000 is all but guaranteed.

$2000 is not impossible one day many many years from now.

i am personally not surprised by performance of 9493, 9492, or 7965. they are performing in line with expectation.

i am out of all of these that i have bought for selling perspective.

9493 => range 139,99-159,99

9492 => range 149,99-159,49

7965 => 279,99

i only have my personal copies left. 3X9493; 1X9492 and 1X7965. { i usually have 3 copies each for my personal stash but apparently i made an error in inventory so had to cover. now i have violated LEGO Shop at Home policy by selling their purchases :( }

I know this belongs in another thread, but I would not be surprised if some of these do come back in January/February along with Jurassic World.  However, I am taking my cues from the EU Shop at Home where many of these sets are marked either retired or retiring soon.

I'm not sure about 75920 - Raptor Escape.  I think it's done.  I know many here thought I was crazy when I said it and I'm sure most still do, but I think it's toast.

does anyone really think the lego fabs are not currently burning to produce more death stars 1 week before the new movie starts?

sold out means not retired.

I think the Death Star will be marked as "retired product" in Europe on the 15th of December and in the US on the 17th.

I think they are too busy trying to get 2016 inventory in the distribution channel to go back on the Death Star now.

You must be new here (welcome):

Past history indicates that Lego's scheduled production runs are set well in advance, as they should be.

Previous speculation was that Surely, Lego would keep R2-D2 around until the next movie

and Surely, the Haunted House would be around until Halloween.

[and surely, the Death Star will have retired by now haha!]

Neither survived and the value of each has gone up accordingly.

Yes because there was absolutely no way in hell that anyone at TLG would do something as mind-numbingly stupid as either (a) retiring the Haunted House before halloween last year, or (b) retire the Super Star Destroyer before the new Star Wars movie came out.  However, TLG did both.

The ways of the TLG product managers are shrouded in the same mystery as the force (at least before Episode I when we learned that the Jedi and Sith were really powered by cooties (i.e., midi-chlorians)).

After being sold out everywhere in the UK other than smyths, I decided to buy one, only to find out they were OoS. Luckily I happened to go back on the site just then and see they were in stock so I grabbed my first Death Star. I'm relatively happy, but can't say the same for my bank account...

Wondering whether to get the Red-5? Will it increase in price a lot once retired? Not sure what to think of this set. Will grab myself a pet shop after Christmas though to avoid a surprise retirement.

there should be no doubt that DS will rise in value after retirement. Previously , when we thought that it was going to EOL , the value had gone up by $100-200.  however, the relatively huge cost for this set and the bulky heavy box weighs heavily ( lol )  on most people's minds . the issue is whether it makes a good investment compared to others , and if there are other sets that may be more worthwhile in terms of ROI . Perhaps 10240 which is cheaper, much lighter , has a smaller box which is easier to pack and ship , might be better.

Wow. If they were trying to lure resellers into buying a ton and then keep this thing going for another 7 years,  then they wouldn't have the Lunt at one.  ( which is laughable when you say it out loud)

I'm really starting to believe it's the end.

Simple, go to your local Lego store ;)

BTW they cancelled my order too when attempting to buy a second DS from LEGO Shop at Home. I will wait till they load my VIP points back into my account and go back to my local store to grab the final one for the quote.
