That's nothing. I have been engagement ring shopping. Now I'm thinking do I want a wife or a garage full of Death Stars....

As a married man...just make sure you leave enough money to buy shelves. You don't want to stack them on top of each other.

think the talk of this set not being valuable is totally off base

I am selling the mandelorian speeder for 50 bucks the coruscant police gunship for 90 bucks, the star wars black han solo for 44 bucks

just a few months ago you could not give these things away

and that droid gunship ? it was doing awful too and taking off

everyone has a right to their opinion but people believing acquired inventories or that it has been active too long are going to be enough to keep this set price down I think are in for a rude awakening

but to each his own

Were those sets out for 7+ years and horded by every reseller on earth?

Well I picked a hell of a day to take my car in for new pads and rotors.  DS or brakes?  Decisions decisions....

Show her a before and after comparison pic of what her ring could look like after selling a few Death Stars down the road.

I respect your opinion naturally Ed. But I still have severe doubts about this set. I try to picture a fan, AFOL, whomever shelling 600+ coins for pure nostalgia if the new bigger one at lower price is within reach. I am just considering the quantities hoarded on this one after 7 years run...

Why would you think that any new DS would be bigger AND cheaper? If it's bigger, it will be more expensive. If it's cheaper, it will be smaller. Regardless, it won't be the same.

Back in spring 2004, I had a chance to buy season tix to the local NFL team. I didn't. Why? The money was needed for my wedding. Ugh. I would have made a small fortune even after paying for the ridiculous seat builders license fees. The point is decisions like these are hard. Lego or Engagement Ring? Ugh.

I would just buy the 10188, build it and make her wear it as an engagement ring. Now that would one heck of a "rock"!

I vote that they combine the idea of modulars with the DS. Split it into multiple $150 sets that can be interconnected to form a monster...

Even there will be a bigger DS released later, for sure it won't be at lower price. Check out what they did with the winter toy shop.

Will one DS outperform 2 Tumblers?

will a long ugly gray pointy thing that no one wanted (ssd) until it was going away outperform most things ?

will a cool set that is so awesome that most ever star wars fan would want (death star) outperform the ssd ?

I would think so

is it guaranteed the fan base of the tumbler is so large and so enormous that it is larger than star wars ? why sure sure it is

Was thinking the same thing. I remember negativity as the SSD neared retirement... Anyone who passed has to be kicking themselves at this point. While the supply for DS will be larger, the market will be too IMO

To be fair, the arguments around SSD was (mostly) about how it looks and the contents (no structure, few minifigs, etc).

The arguments around Death Star is much more relevant, its supply vs. demand.

As for me, I'm not buying any more. Wish I hadn't made my impulse buy this year. I can be wrong of course (and I hope so), but looking at the cold hard "facts", I'm worried.

Would make too much sense.

There would be some challenges though.

the throne room is already not a modular and they could never achieve the same "greatness" as a big circular doll house.
