completed and sold listings from eBay germany Dec 8 and 9: 444 / 448 / 499 / 599 ... every sold listing in the past two days above RRP (420)

That are just mostly resellers buying from other resellers who are having cold water fear.

This has been out so long and hoarded by so many I honestly think it will stagnate around $550-600 for years after EOL.

You might be surprised.

Maybe but I am not willing to take that gamble.

This has been around long enough where some of the hoarded piles have been liquidated already. This we will do just fine. If it goes this Christmas season, $750 by Christmas 2016.

I respect your opinion naturally Ed. But I still have severe doubts about this set. I try to picture a fan, AFOL, whomever shelling 600+ coins for pure nostalgia if the new bigger one at lower price is within reach. I am just considering the quantities hoarded on this one after 7 years run...

might want to look at older retired set and see how they are progressing. once any sets retires or no longer available pricing will reflect its desirability and value.

there are always risks and rewards.

7 years ago we did not have LEGO hype we have today so there may be far less people to hoard but there may be significant quantity hoarded as well. time will tell.

if this set really goes out then it will quickly reach $600 (range) in US. after that its all demand and supply and of course time will tell.

we have to see when the new one comes out. if its back to back and then both of these death stars are same/similar { except the shape which will be circle } then 10188 will be a real grinder.... otherwise it will be 10221 ;) ...

lets see if it breaks 1000's mark clearly. its been hovering in that range 940-1048 @ amazon for a long time (3-4 months now). i don't see reduction in number of sellers.

You guys are making me laugh.

This set will follow the same pattern as SSD, around double MSRP in a year.

Any future remake or different version will not affect it at all.

how many 10188 are you betting on that?

i am not betting on that! i have only 30% of SSD i had.

Well in all honesty, GBHQ is having more pieces for lesser dollar figure, so I'm not sure how do you justify that reasoning. Because it's SW? Sure, that's why it was premium priced to begin with.

It was priced many years ago, plastic is worth more now, big huge pieces, it's a beast.  It was also priced many years ago.

So after it hits $600 in two months, it will sit there for years?
