Which is making me wonder if the rumor for a bigger better death star for next year is actually true.  I hope so.  You can never have too many death stars.

I bet ghostbusters HQ will have an alternative build that makes death star

Since nobody bothered yet here...

Last time there was a new status update to Death Star (when it went Sold Out in July) they sold about 1,000 of them in three hours. This whole place came unglued.

Presumably we've all gotten that out of our system? Let's not convince TLG to produce 1,000 more by going bananas at this new tag.

Truly amazing how little attention this is getting.

The space station that cried wolf, indeed.

I think they are paying attention in the retiring soon thread. Also, in any case, all DS money should have been put towards acquisition of Gingerbread houses apparently

Good point, i guess i was assuming the convo would show up here too.

Someday they'll invent forums that know what you're talking about and duplicate and shift topics dynamically so you never miss a convo.

Jeff Mack, if you could get on that, that'd be great. M'kay?

 ... and I thought I'd have more time to get this set. A retirement doesn't make any sense with the new Star Wars movie about to be released.

hope this is a sarcastic comment?

1. About 7 years is more than enough... so many people will be happy when this set finally retires

2. I don't think it's up to you to decide if it makes sense ^.^ I'd say for a 7 year old set it makes a lot of sense (don't forget that LEGO retired R2D2!!! so "making sense out of our perspective isn't a valid argument here).
So other than age of the set why does it make sense? Because it will free a lot of shelf space for newer sets (that are movie related).

3. I'm pretty sure you can still get it if you want to get it now. I really am hoping it's going for good now! But who knows... maybe just more people end up with the DS that never dies.

Big W in Australia just had the DS in their Dec Catalog $598 Aud, Almost 100 off rrp for here. Aus lego site listed as Sold Out. Any SW LEGO purchase over $30 came with the C3PO poly bag as well :)

Soon is a relative term. Retiring soon for a set that has been out 8 years means 2 more years.

Yes, and I'm really curious to see the price of this set if TLG really does announce a new "bigger, better" DS during 2016 and all the small time folk start to jump ship...

Could be a Starkiller Base too, we don't know.

I feel an Emazers post is nigh. There will be mocking, bragging, references to people's inability to listen and talk of crying into your pillow.

He's been making those quotes for years they had to come true st some time

A new Death Star, regardless of size, will only help the 10188 IMO.  This set, once retired, will be one of the safer investment choices in the LEGO Investing Universe.  The new version will be completely different, with new characters, diorama scenes and build quality.  People will want the new one and "old" one(s).

I respect your opinion naturally Ed. But I still have severe doubts about this set. I try to picture a fan, AFOL, whomever shelling 600+ coins for pure nostalgia if the new bigger one at lower price is within reach. I am just considering the quantities hoarded on this one after 7 years run...
