Every Death Star needs a gingerbread house next door, right?

Perhaps it's just my mood this morning but this comment got me imagining a lovely Winter Village Whoville with a nice dark and evil Death Star hovering over the top of the nearby mountain... of course a quick recon shows people have already combined the two concepts in some form or fashion...

I am sitting in the cherry hill mall parking lot (grand opening today) I was not planning on getting a Death Star, I was not expecting them (or any store) to have a Death Star. When I walked in and saw one sitting on the shelf though... Well, now I have a Death Star. I didn't even research this thing ::irresponsible:: but I did know I either bought it or someone else would (probably in the 45 minutes after the store opened) :)

So now what do I do with it? (I've started reading the book that is this thread, but I don't have all weekend to read it)

Can I make any money on it this season, or do I have to sit on it endlessly, waiting (like everyone else) for it to retire?

Sorry for being a total noob on this one.

Also my seals match those posted above, 40R5

It could go either way.

First of all, welcome to the thread.

I would say your only mistake is not waiting a couple weeks to get a free Gingerbread House with your purchase.  You might want to try exchanging it when that promotion goes live.

If this set goes to Sold Out everywhere it could jump to $550-600 before Christmas but nobody really knows.  I'm holding long-term.  If production continues through next year, many brickpickers will be disappointed, including myself.

Well you probably paid around 425 after tax. To ship it fully insured will be around 45 bucks so you need 470, then if you use paypal that's another 7 bucks, so 477, then ebay so, around 525. I'll assume you have a good sturdy box, and bubble wrap at a cheap if not free source. If not, more $$$.

So knowing that, you need to get 525 to break even, and that doesnt account for your time, effort, and hoping the buyer doesnt send it back, or open it, take out the figures and send it back for full refund with Item not as described.

Of course there's always Craigslist, but if you're in Jersey, bring a gun. So that's an extra 5 bills (plus ammo)

WELCOME TO BRICKPICKER!!!!!!!!!

I've been here less than a year, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is going to retire 1st quarter 2016. Seems like the logical move with Ghostbusters Building coming out to replace it on the shelf. ...

Hey there- I've been on for about a year, but thanks for your kind welcome!

This last bit rings especially true! :) thanks for the advice on craigslisting, I've thought about it...

I think my first mistake was not buying one of the ones listed on ebay for less than msrp. Hopefully those are actually complete sets though.

I think I just over-reacted since over the past year I've been frequently in and out of (now) four different LEGO stores and I never saw a single one of these. Nor have I really seen it available on LEGO Shop at Home either. (Available not btw if you need one) :) so I kind of freaked out and jumped on something that wasn't really there so to speak.

Thanks to so many of you for weighing in.

"Available until hell freezes over" awesome!

Lol. You won't be the first or the last to make that mistake. I don't think they will put GBHQ in the star wars section so not sure how that would replace it on the shelves.

Hey there, wanted to make sure you knew my post was 99% in jest. The Welcome to Brickpicker was based on your comment calling yourself a Noob.

I was just pointing out the absurdity of how some folks assume buying and selling lego is free cash in the land of milk and honey.

If you've been here a year you know that already.

Seriously though, i think the DS will be a winner. I have a few backing that prediction up.

Of course i'm one of the people that ruined B&N policy of 20% lego, plus 10%, plus giftcard, plus the kids club coupon (only once) to get them ;)

Well... I'm also socially awkward for good measure. I am acting like a total noob on this though actually, and now I've got to figure out how to fix it.

I have learned that it's not easy money, but it's way too easy to get excited about the QFLL lifestyle and go all out on something that you actually know you can't really financially support. So I think this may be my big expensive lesson in not pulling lame stunts. :)

I do appreciate everyone's input and if I had that cash sitting around, I'd hold it for sure.

This post should be moved to "you know you are a LEGO investor if...."    you need to justify the reason for your purchase with if I don't buy it surely someone else would have.

My Lego Store had Death Star (only the same old box we are used to, lol), with 40R5 codes.

Southflorida store has it as well in the storage room, but only an empty box on display. The associate did not tell me the seal code, only if I would buy it, because he said it is in the shipping box. So, I did not get the codes.

Did you check the DS pricing on Target online recently? Can't believe how much overpriced it is.
