But that´s not the official lego online shop at home we all love, is it? More likely a private semi official shop who are using that tactic to push up their prices.

They would not let you go home early this evening or did you finally fix your duplicate post problem?

Russia. I doubt that we have a DS production here, so the message is likely to be applied to all markets.

As a heads up (since you're a newer user), there are two common themes on this site.

1) store clerks (and managers, lego employees, customer service workers, janitors, etc) will claim certain knowledge of a set's imminent retirement. But they rarely are correct. We have a whole thread documenting such falsehoods, and it goes back years.

2) The Death Star in particular has been rumored dead several times.

So i'm not saying your clerk is wrong, but be sure to take it with a grain of salt before you invest too much. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice!

I do know how to treat it... the only chain in Russia that goes under name "Lego", plus it has many exclusive sets. It is either an official SaH, or at least an official franchise (the more likely).

Ok thanks for clarifying. Not being the official shop at home, it sounds like shop pressure tactics to push up sales so can´t be given more credibility than the in-shop retirement I posted last week.

TLG use the more sophisticated channels of the media ad press to get their shortage propaganda messages across!

yeah, but what about them seal codes?

Dang it...I always forget to check!  Honestly, I go in there, and my eyes glaze over.  I will say they didn't have any on the floor a week ago when I was there.  And I always forget to ask about damaged boxes, too.

Any guesses why Walmart poofs so quickly whereas other retailers (Target and Amazon) tend to linger for days (or weeks) on end?

Just a guess but perhaps Walmart puts returns on the shelf marked down...

Target and Amazon don't have the same high quality customer base.

Thats right stick with the Death Star and you can't go wrong, if you have enough of them you will be living on wall street in a few years. Get them while you can, and forget about this talk about a new box.

What if we're paying MSRP ($400+tax)?

There's not really any other way.  Well, there's a couple ways to get them cheaper than MSRP, but for the most part, you're only getting them at MSRP.  I guarantee that emazers' advice holds true for this set at MSRP.

I'd like to take your guarantee as well. If it doesn't I'll contact you ;-)

(I'm getting more and more frustrated with this never retiring set ^^)

Hey, I only have one, and it's one I bought used (and incomplete) from Goodwill.
