For the record many of us thought Halloween didn't matter to TLG plans for HH. It's not exactly a big toy holiday.

Sure, but look back at the HH threads from last year.  There were a lot of people who were absolutely convinced that there was no way that TLG would retire HH before Halloween.  I didn't think that Halloween would matter either, but it's always interesting to see what people are able and willing to convince themselves of in the absence of actual information.

Has this set always had the same MRSP?  Am i right in thinking yes?

Given how old it is if Lego retired this one today and then re-released the exact same set but with updated/re-printed mini figs tomorrow would the price similar? Interested to know peoples thoughts given "Lego inflation",   For a Star Wars set to have 3800 pieces and be £275 (in the UK) that sounds like bargain of the decade to me (in Lego $$$).

I would have thought an immediate re-release would be £350 minimum which is why I'm now starting to think that even if there is a new death star on the horizon then it wont be near the piece count of this one as it would be too expensive for the general market.  Using EV as a "base case" circa 2000 pieces and $250 USD.  So an equivalent DS would be $500 off the bat.

Obviously i'm making some generic assumptions here.  Mini figs dont scale up between the sets one set might have lots of small pieces vs larger generic ones etc etc.

in its long life time it has been discounted in US and was available for less than or around $260 at one point.

This is absolutely true.  Any "new DS" will not be larger than 10188, and will probably be smaller.  This makes me lean toward the new one being a display model, not a playset, unless it's along the lines of Cloud City and completely abandons the idea of having the spherical DS shape.  Most likely it will simply be a UCS Trash Compactor with limited appeal outside of waste management professionals.

Plastic is not the primary cost of producing a set.

i realize that, but it is legos pimary material.  I just odered $10,000 in plastic for parts I make for this month.  Last month it was 11,000.  Of course this is profit for me.. because I bid my work long ago.  If the customer wanted me to rebid, I guess I'd loose that 1k.  I'm asking lego to rebid!:)  might only be a couple bucks on a death star...but better than nothing.
