There is no way I would buy a Haunted House for $400 now, and returning a Death Star to get one to me is a big mistake. The Death Star will rise fast when it retires in a few months or so, just look of all the crap I heard when I kept saying get SSD,HH, etc. Now with 46 SSD and 62 HH and I do have 56 DS most thought I was crazy.   Ed

Now I'm regretting canceling the two I ordered an hour ago.

It's also a big expense. For the small time investor like me, I stopped at 3. I can't afford any more. Definitely not returning them though. Buy what you can afford, and assume that you will be holding them for a while .

Why would you buy a HH for $400 if you're sitting on 62 already...?

He's just saying a 400 dollar haunted house wont appreciate as much as a death star. I am not sure i agree that the death star will out perform the haunted house. Assuming equal price points. Death star has the brand going for it. Haunted house has scarcity. I think scarcity is going to win out.

I wanted to snag some haunted houses before it hits 500+ because i see it at 1000 in 2 years. Will the Death star even retire before then?

With the Star Wars craze about to start and this set being in the top 25 top sellers on SAH, I can't imagine LEGO retiring this set until at least next year.  They may not keep be able to keep up with demand now with buyers and resellers until after the holiday.  The number of resellers and their volume continues to grow...concerns me.  I hope the demand is high for this item during the holiday to the point resellers are raising prices and not undercutting the prices... will be looking to sell some of these and regain some space.

No one could imagine TLG retiring HH before Halloween or R2D2 before EP7, but both happened.

They didn't retire HH before Halloween, it sold out and they never made more. Maybe they thought it would last? Or since the entire MF theme was ending they decided it was time.

R2 was obviously replaced by new UCS sets in the Star Wars (and other) themes at similar price points.

DS is different ... Higher price point, more of a play set with all the minifigs. Defies all logic really yet everyone keeps thinking they know Lego's master plan!

(Sorry, not all directed to you... Just in general people seem to be repeating the same unknowns over and over as if they're knowns... And I'm tired cranky today :))

You're allowed. ;)

I only look at HH and R2D2 as examples of "nothing is guaranteed" with Lego. For all we know, the last DS might have rolled off the production line yesterday. Or maybe they're refitting the line for another run. A lot of people expected BBT to sell out. It didn't. The unknown is more exciting than the known sometimes. It's why people gamble... and invest.

For the record many of us thought Halloween didn't matter to TLG plans for HH. It's not exactly a big toy holiday.

Why all the speculation?  I know it's fun and all, but let's all just admit that Lego will never retire the DS.  Unless of course they release a newer updated version, in which case they will.  But didn't I just say they won't?

Never mind, who cares.  Lego will do what Lego will do.  Especially considering how unpredictable they have been over the last year, nothing is a guarantee anymore like it was a few years ago.  Just go with the flow people.  Take a chilaxitive.

My 2 cents..

If they come out with a death star that looks like the original "death star 2", I will be all over it! I really don't like the playhouse look of the current version death star, and for that reason only, I will not buy it. Don't get me wrong, there is money to be made on this current one also, but I prefer to buy stuff I really like, or stuff that is deeply discounted, for parts.

Imo this set was always geared to the kid who's parents may spend this money on the ultimate birthday or Christmas gift.  It's made for playability.  This is a long term investment imo.  The kid who missed our on this set, in 10 years he may want it bad.
