Did you calculate if the cargo area is sufficiently large to buy MOAR LEGO?

SSD did not have dreaded "we are making more" threat...

True. But at that time that notation wasn't used and SSDs were available for months in Europe after the U.S. went to Sold Out. Listen, LEGO can easily make another production run of the 10188 and restock them in the U.S., but they also might not. Until it changes in the U.S., it's still an interesting development.

Only if those LEGO employees with BrickPicker accounts would post and tell us their plans. Hmmmm...

Why shouldn't they? They announced it at LEGO Shop at Home and there are people willing to buy.

There will be a point in time where it is not financially feasible for LEGO to produce the 10188 any longer, where demand for other sets will outweigh keeping this set around...even if people are still buying. Are we at that point yet? Only LEGO knows, but there are some important pieces of info coming out with these Sold Out listings the last week or so. Those who read them correctly will benefit. Others will look back 6 months from now and say they should have done this or that. All of these sets went Sold Out for a reason. What's the reason?

Some claim on another forum that TLG discovered a QC issue with some parts that are common in these sets and that they preferred to withdraw entire production runs. Perhaps a potential official Lego retail partner manager & forum member could corroborate that...

My guess is that it is a question of production capacity.  At the end of the day, TLG has a finite capacity to manufacture bricks and sets.  Without looking at any numbers, it seems to me like TLG has been pumping out a lot more new sets and new themes over the past few years than it has in the past (e.g., the Classic line of sets, the four great vehicle City sets last year, etc.), and each of those sets and themes must lay claim to some percentage of that finite manufacturing capacity.  Unless TLG has a lot of excess manufacturing capacity, the smartest play that they can make is to allocate the available capacity to the sets and themes that prove to be most profitable.  Even though 10188 may be a good seller and may still be a profitable set, the ultimate question is whether it is sufficiently profitable when compared to other sets/themes to justify the manufacturing and distribution capacity that it requires to place the set into the hands of retailers.  I would suspect that there are going to be a lot of retirements over the next 3-6 months simply because of the manufacturing capacity that TLG is going to be allocating to the new Star Wars sets.

I am buying a 4 door Jeep Wrangler with lego profits. This one......

nothing like dumping your investment profits in liabilities that tank as soon as you sign that contract.... im thinking bigger and more stationary with $0 mortgage, but whatever gives you instant gratification....

honestly, all this talk about in-stock, sold-out, lego stating more will be made, etc...  it just makes me want to finally crack open one of my opened box / sealed bags 10188s.  it must really be a cool build considering all the features.

Better do it now before you are cracking open a $800 set.

So true.

Years ago I bought a single town hall and fire brigade just because I thought they looked so great. At that time the only sets I had bought and opened as an AFOL were holiday sets, mainly because I can justify to the wife displaying those around Christmas. But I never opened TH and FB because I really didn't know what I would do with them after they were built. So they just sat in my basement.

Fast forward a few years and now I've built (or am building) pretty much every current modular along with FW, TB and several others...but TH an FB still sit in their box, only now the reason is that they've appreciated so much. I'm sure one day I'll break down and build them but that decision gets harder and harder as the price ticks up and up...

Yup, I've had this tough decision many times & I find it just doesn't happen at the end of the day...It's sad but Lego keeps putting such good "other things" to distract me...

That is one of the rumors.  Production issues...whether it be errors in or lack thereof is usually the case for shortages.

honestly, i don't see the point of keeping 99% of items like this Lego set sealed.  it was made to build and enjoy.  luckily, most of us have multiple copies of some sets.  bottom line is we are talking about a mass produced set that's been around since 2008 (or so) and looks like it's going to be refreshed,

i think we can all attest to there will not be a shortage of sealed 10188s anytime soon.   if we were talking about a 10196, 10179, 10181, 10189, etc... i can totally understand the hesitation.

this is the point where people decide if they are in the game for the 100% money, 100% building or some combo (this is me).
