If I call Lego to complain about DS 'coming back', does that mark me as a reseller?  Sigh.  I didn't buy any more this time around, but I would have been perfectly happy to see it go.  The 'DS as cat condo' idea is seeming more and more plausible.  Shame the furry folks don't appreciate all the exclusive minifigs and classic scenes from the OT...

Just call from a pay phone like you did for PR ;)

I think w/e may have figured out who bought that "99%" complete DS on eBay...

maybe but there sure wasn't that message on the site.

They had a couple diff ones..  this is the one that had everyone panicking:

LEGO® Ideas sets are fan created and limited production. We’re sorry it’s not available – it’s proven to be an overwhelmingly popular set. We’re looking into if we can make more. Check back soon!

Then this...

Then it showed up all over the damn place!

I think we all got caught in the Hype.

Sadly so am i :money:(given im a newbie who started only a month ago).

Well lesson learned, but still i dont think owning this set is a loss.

If i cant make a profit off it, least my friend who has not yet saved up enough money can rest assured he can get it from me at a best buddy discount.

Of course Lego will wait with restocking DS in the US till the return window is expired. I personally think that the 200+ DS out of Europe are now on the boat to the US ;-)

Together with some PC, PS and PR? This could be the explanation why all of them achived the "sold out" status at the same time...

Or maybe this was just another glitch at European LEGO Shop at Home.

I find it funny the phenomena of you resellers lately.  The sheer amount of panicking every time something switches status on Lego and it's like everyone practically pees their pants.

It's been almost 2 years since I've been on this site, and even back then, I never noticed soo much panic before.  At least not to this level.

I honestly believe you guys are your own worst enemy.  It's your own self-fulfilled prophecy all coming true.

And Lego has straight up been trolling you guys like a champ. (Whether or not it's their true goal is hard to tell, but I like to think so.)

I think what you are saying is not fair. Especially after the fact. Offcourse people panicked. And they should... we have TH as an example. Lego is doing strange things lately. So that to me justifies some people panicking.

I agree to an extent.  10188 is a perfect example of the panic.  Some members / resellers are creating their own stress  and mess (mentally and financially) .  Thus these members are checking the inventory and tag statuses like a stock day trader does with real-time quotes.

It seems we do have more people interested in making money than Lego building itself.   On top of that, throw in TLG's latest behavior of retail practices (meaning forget about the old school thought of standard 2-3 year cycles with a couple of exceptions).

i disagree about Lego trolling though.  They most likely reacting to market and retail trends more than resellers when it comes to manufacturing.

What he said was totally fair and 100% accurate.......whoever thinks resellers are not their own worst enemy needs a wake up call.

And it doesn't help the brick show guys announced the 101188 retirement on no basis whatsoever..........that made my head hurt.

Rock,

yeah, they were one of the Lego info outlets who 'reported’ the set as retired because of the Sold Out status.  Personally, I would have rather seen the Sold Out for at least 4 straight weeks before reporting it as even probably retired.  Then again, I know where these content folks are coming from (their biz model).

No... it is not fair to come with this statement a few minutes after the sets re-appear. If you are convinced about your opinion say it before. Saying something after the fact is easy. If these really were EOL he probably would not have come with this statement. That is what I mean with not fair.

The fact that resellers are their own worse enemy... I cannot deny they are.

This was my main point in all of this.  The hoard mentality has grown to such an extent it's actually effecting Legos production runs/retirements/stock issues.

Even considering a couple of years ago, it seemed the reselling community was small enough that even when something whiffed of retirement stocks would still last a while.  But now, there has been such a boon, that resellers are actually making ripples in what Lego decides to do with production runs.  I mean if something goes out of stock on one site, boom, within hours every other retailer is being dried up.

Look, it's still fair, because people 'assumed' that 10188 was retired.  Just because something is sold out doesn't really mean a whole lot, especially with trends lately.  So you resellers have no one to blame but yourselves on this.  I was convinced myself this was going to come back.  I think this set will still be around for a while honestly.

With regards to me not saying the statement if it was for sure retired, is silly because it's still all based on assumption.

In regards to retirement, I have a gut feeling, that nothing is really going to be retiring this year.  Maybe early next year possibly, but I doubt at the moment.  I think all these retiring rumors are all the fault of resellers constantly panicking and buying up inventory the moment it's available and causing all these constant status changes on SAH.
