Guys, take your babysittters and kids to the appropriate movie thread please. This one is for important stuff like Death Star appreciation (and bubble) speculation!

We're discussing public spoilers of the new movie being posted in general SW threads like this one. How is it not related?

Of corse I will not go to the movie thread and ask people not to discuss the new movie. That would make no sense.

If a dog is born in a stable that doesn´t make it a horse.

Also, in the 6h that have passed since that particulardiscussion took place, this set has been officially retired in the EU, which could be considered slightly more newsworthy  than Ciglione´s childcare arrangements ;)

And... who do you think is going to buy your DS's in 20 years time? Exactly. So it is not that unimportant.

I have not had a chance to see the new movie, but i am interested in how people who have seen it, think it will impact the popularity of this set. Feel free to PM me if you think people will view it as a spoiler.

I also agree. Comments from those who have seen the new movie about how it will impact 10188 post retirement seem very useful and add to the discussion. My request was just to avoid details about the movie being posted to substantiate those opinions, at least until people have had a reasonable amount of time to see it themselves. I thought Trek and Chipbee did a pretty good job walking that line.

I think you should try to give people opening weekend before spilling the beans. It's just not practical for everyone to see the movie by opening day.

I know that won't happen but Sunday night/Monday morning seems like the right time to me.

I have Christmas Eve tickets.  I'm going to have to be careful reading this site for the next week.

Top 5 movie of all-time for me.

I will say this

After watching Episode VII in all its glory if I was Lego, Disney and Lucas Arts and I was trying to attract the millions of people who are new young and vibrant

I in absolutely no way would after watching the movie go back and do UCS set of the original Death Star

No way at all

I am not saying OT UCS sets are done I do not mean that at all

There is so much life talent and vibrancy in things in the new movie that can be UCS

They could capture so many more fans of all ages with a UCS Star Killer

Seeing the movie actually had me consider something (no I do not feel this way but it crossed my mind) wow the Death Star is old news, this Star Killer and everything else is new fresh high tech and cool

For this reason I think those that have stocked up on the old Death Star will do great over the next few years whether it is replaced some day or not by a better version.  the old death star may not spike initially if the star killer releases and people buy it first (I would if I was a kid asking my parents and I was new to star wars now) but I think this sets up the  10188 for an excellent appreciation over several years

the death star is dead

long live the death star

I don't think the upcoming set is based on Ep7's Starkiller base.  It's all about Rogue One and seems like it will be getting a release close to the fall, which would be about the time the figures and sets start rolling out for that film..  While, I thought that star killer base might be a possibility at one point, i'm not convinced of that anymore.  I'm really convinced this "update" will be for Rogue One and be based on scenes from that film.

How do they even accomplish a set for Star Killer Base?  I'm not sure.

Funny after watching the movie I thought there was NO way the 10188 replacement would be a Starkiller Base. I am thinking bigger and better Death Star for sure now. Either way I am still making bank on 10188, it is just a question of short term double or longer term quintuple of my buy in.

If a new DS is indeed an integral part of TFA storyline, then it makes a lot of sense to kill off this one as happened with the OT ships that feature in TFA in a new guise. The exception is perhaps the  UCS OT Tie Fighter. I can see that set having a B Wing type life, actually.

Quintuple is a big statement! Was your buy-in $200? Or are you predicting something like a $1500 or $2000 price long term?
