Whoever it is, it's quite fun looking at the other things dotted around the room. There's Brettcuv's Iron Giant on the top shelf and the glass display is a neat idea as well. Quote

Popular Post MusiKyle Posted August 26, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 26, 2019 I finally got started on my amusement park project and thought I would use this thread as a place to post updates periodically. The first challenge was getting a 4x8 piece of particle board home atop my RAV4. I decided to use a couple of 2x4s with some cutouts to set atop my roof rack. Since it was temporary I just tied them down with twice. Once I bought the particle board it was pretty tough getting it on top of my roof by myself but it worked out eventually and I strapped it down. While driving home I was able to minimize at least some of the lift under the board by opening the sunroof and the rear two windows, that let the air blow right through. Still, I didn't want to be over-confidence, I spent 90% of the trip home at around 20 mph and never breached 30 mph. Once I got home I was looking at the 1/2 landing staircase leading to the basement and I realized it was dimensionally impossible to get the full 4x8 particle board down in one piece... So, at least I saved some money getting the full sheet (buying in bulk, essentially versus Qty 2 4x4 sheets). Got the circular saw out and cross cut the 4x8 sheet down the center and was able to move the now 4x4 boards one at a time. The whole build is nothing more than 2x4s and a sheet of particle board. My 6-year-old was a great helper, she had a lot of fun. I had a couple extra non-rotating caster wheels so two of the legs I cut short and put those casters on to make it easier to move into the middle of the basement and work around the perimeter of the table. The main design concept is to have a train running the perimeter with some of the creator expert amusement part sets standing out as the key rides. A few fun additions will be included such as the Lego Ideas Space Rocket Boy set and the BrickLink AFOL Hot Shots set. When I put all of the sets on top of the table it filled out nicely. However, last night I started building some of the smaller sets (People Pack Fun Fair, Bean There Donut That, etc.) and I realized the built sets were smaller than the boxes they came in. I was clearing volume off the table in terms of boxes not but 1:1 replaceing them with built sets... I am going to have a lot of gap filling to do with walking paths, street lights, shrubbery, etc. Covering the top of the table in green baseplates is also going to be expensive. Amazon has them at $5.69 a piece right now so it's a good time to bite, but I'll need Qty 50 of them and that's close to $300 right there! Anyways, just thought I'd share my progress. Feel free to comments, ask questions, etc. I also have plans for a centralized control panel that for each motorized right will have two switches (one to turn it on, and one to light it up). More to come... 10 Quote

I've read a lot of people developing a carnival-fairground theme but haven't see a full one yet. I want to go full-bore on building but I realize I need to be patient. The creator expert roller coaster, for example, has been described as very difficult to move once built. While I'll still build some smaller sets that are easier to move, I'll probably start focusing with covering the top with green baseplates followed by finalizing and securing the train track design. I'd like to have the track raised a bit (either in a certain area or all the way around) to make it look like it's got a strong, structurally solid base, maybe use some of those 1x2 stone bricks.
