I am looking forward to stocking this one 30-40 deep or so when the time comes. Great set and I hope they continue the theme. Let's talk about this theme, because I think you are 100% correct about it being a "theme." The set that I think is flying way under the radar right now is the Fairground Mixer. By itself, there is pretty much nothing to get excited about - it looks like a glorified City set that should be $89.99 at TRU and garner very little attention even at that price. But what it actually represents is the "missing link" to the whole Summer Carnival theme in about 5 years. Nobody is buying it, nobody is hoarding it, and it might simply vanish in the middle of the night in a poof of smoke. Then, as TLG continues to develop this theme and more and more collectors need to have the entire collection, it becomes the sought after piece that nobody has. Optimistic? Maybe. But plausible? Absolutely. 4 Quote

fossilrock Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) I bought that set for my son for christmas… I personally have never seen it built, and know little about what i'm about to delve into with it. But, judging from the brickshow's comments, they stated it was one of the best technical sets they ever built, and the designer needed a raise. So, i'll take that as it may. But, the question remains, what type of sets in the fairground theme are they going to build next? I think a giant swing is a given, how about one of those viking ships that goes upside down… clearly there are many more. A roller coaster? Don't know. It will be interesting to see how big this line could go. So, until the line gets to 6 or 7 sets, I think there should still be a little trepidation in going deep on any of these, really. Pseudoty Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) I hated on the mixer when it was released and bought none. As soon as the FW was announced I was all in on both since this was now a theme and you have to have the first one. Interesting I just picked up another last Saturday at the lego store and seal codes were still from the original production run. I think the Brickumentary hinted heavily at a roller coaster and all of the resources that are being put into its development over the past 4 years. So if not spring 2016 then 17 for sure. We are already primed for the price increase to continue so $249 would be acceptable. Perhaps these posts should be moved to the mixer thread. Edited November 29, 2015 by Pseudoty Quote
conceptmachine Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) I'm 10 plus on mixer and wheel. My current favorites of the lego line. I'm sure they will make more. They were fun builds IMO. Really like them ran with the motors and remote to slow them down to scale speed. Edited November 29, 2015 by conceptmachine Quote

thoroakenfelder Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I built the gingerbread house and holiday train. We're putting together our holiday display so tomorrow will be Santa's workshop. 1 Quote
terrymc4677 Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Tonight I built a 10216 Winter Bakery which I acquired in a bulk lot that I purchased a couple of months ago. I had to Bricklink a few missing pieces and they arrived this morning. What a great little set. I love how the light brick lights up the goods on display in the front window. Tomorrow I'll get it photographed and put up for sale. 1 Quote

Lordoflego Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) All this came today....sweet, I built the gingerbread house half way and got bored, do t get me wrong, it's a great set, but I guess I like to sell more than build. Edited December 2, 2015 by Lordoflego Doesn't match topic 1 Quote

thoroakenfelder Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I just told them that they'll switch off each day. I've got a couple extra Star Wars calendars, but I just prefer them to have some variety. 1 Quote
areyounormal Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Put together the Dr. Who set this morning. The build was more complex than I expected and really enjoyed building the phone booth. I would have preferred different versions of the doctor - my favorite Doctor was David Tennant and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler (if you have Netflix you can see them in the first seasons of 2005 the reboot of Dr. Who) - but I understand why they chose to go with the current Peter Capaldi version. My TRU had 20+ of the set in stock which is more than any other Ideas set I have seen them stock - while I was in line 2 mothers asked me where I had found it so perhaps this will be a popular set! 3 Quote

redghostx Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Last week I built the 10246 Detective's Office and although I appreciate it, I don't really love it. It's very small compared to other buildings and suffers the same problem that the Market Street and Pet Shop have: By splitting the building vertically, the interiors of the building are too small. My other big complaint is that the building is very shallow. The pool hall is very well done and the detective's part is nice but I would prefer a secretary's office across from it. The barber shop exists and I have seen enough 'S' letters in the modular buildings; they don't look good. This week (and weekend), I built the 10243 Parisian Restaurant. I waited until I built the 10246 because of all the great things I had heard about the Restaurant and I wanted this to be just an ok build because I love the Green Grocer... Unfortunately (for me), this set is a construction home run! The details in the dining area and the kitchen are phenomenal, especially the chain fencing. The external staircase really works well with the 2nd dining patio and the adjoining pullout bed is a clever design (needs a rug!). The art loft/studio is a nice addition and I really appreciated the way that the fireplace was designed. Overall, the Parisian Restaurant is a great size and used nice techniques overall, including for the roofing and the first floor pillars, using food accessories, and to create offsets with jumper tiles. Simply a fabulous build and my new favorite. ETA - My only complaint is that the balconies should be one stud deeper on the modular buildings. Edited December 3, 2015 by redghostx 8 Quote

Clintonjoseph Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Built a Battle of Alamut 7573 from Prince of Persia theme today. Got it used on eBay for under $50. Haven't seen the movie, but the set is awesome. Really fun build and great pieces, great colors. Looks really different than other sets, very unique. 1 Quote

lego rules Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) When I first built the 8043 I thought it was amazing and it is, but can it be better? Awhile back I posted the Ultimate 42009 which is a marvel of technic engineering and here is another MOC / MOD (that is what he calls it, but the changes are substantial) by Jurgen Krooshoop. The Ultimate 8043 In addition to 4 included M motors, there is an additional M and XL motor, 2 sets of lights, and an extra IR receiver and controler. All functions can operate at the same time but it is difficult to drive and operate any the other functions. I have to say, this is by far the best playability technic model I have built thus far and the modification from the original makes it easier to operate and a lot more robust. I also changed the dark grey threads to black, the way I think they should be! Edited December 7, 2015 by lego rules 3 Quote
