JesusLovesLegos Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Hi, I'm new to the site. Just wondering why people will pay more for an new Lego item on Ebay when they can buy it cheaper from Lego or Amazon? Not every item, usually the newer sets that are still being produced. Thoughts? Quote
legotrader Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Hi, I'm new to the site. Just wondering why people will pay more for an new Lego item on Ebay when they can buy it cheaper from Lego or Amazon? Not every item, usually the newer sets that are still being produced. Thoughts? There are various reasons for it. Number one, some are just plain stupid. Sometimes, people get into bidding wars on Ebay and have to win an item, even though they know they can get it cheaper somewhere else. They start bidding on an item and set a price in their heads, yet when they hit that targeted price, they still continue to bid it up. Ebay has to love these fools. Another reason that consumers pay more on Ebay is that these people(mainly non-US residents) cannot have items shipped to them from Amazon or other sites, so certain Ebay sellers will ship an item at higher costs. These are countries where Lego access is not possible from typical US sellers and there isn't a Toys R Us on the corner. People in the US are spoiled with easy access to various Lego stores and websites. There are millions of Lego fans that don't have the same ability to buy and sell Lego sets and bricks, so they pay more. Quote

The bidding process really jacks up the prices of auctions sometimes. That's why this site is so important to the Lego investor. Basically so you don't get ripped off and pay too much. It also gives sellers an idea of what to list items for, if they are smart and don't try to rip people off. Quote
