TheOrcKing Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 From a post over on The Brick Fan, just2good of Eurobricks has stated a new chess set will go along with the other Pirates sets of 2015. This should make building an army of blue coats and buccaneers rather easy, eh? 3 Quote

10230 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Would have been better (cooler) to have a LotR chess set. They did miss that opportunity. 5 Quote

There aren't licensed LEGO chess sets because some other company has the rights to produce chess sets for any given property. There would have been a Star Wars chess set long ago if they could just produce whatever they wanted. Quote

mauro23 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) And one big mistake - white King on white field at the beginning and vice versa... (Beside this mistake this set is really crap comparing to the old Pirate chess set...) Further negative - as the fields have a stud in the middle a minifig can never stay exactly in the middle of the field but slihtly on the left or right... I would fire the designer... ;-) Edited February 14, 2015 by mauro23 3 Quote
@rtisan Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Interesting that they added some display features to the exterior of the board, but I`d rather have seen the parts put to use on making the board space itself and the pieces better. I`m a huge fan of the Kingdoms Chess Set from years back, it`s Lego`s best thus far (IMHO). Still holding out hope that Lego makes another one like it, with larger pieces. Maybe in this case the pirate pawns could have small brick-built rafts, the rooks a small tower, bishops a mast (they are taller after all, aside form King and Queen, at least they should be). Something similar for the Imperial Army side. Aside from the army building purpose (which is great, I`ll give the chess sets that), I`m just not a fan of these sets that don`t have more impressive pieces. They`ve done it before, why not again? Here`s what I`m talking about. Quote

The older LEGO chess sets look like chess sets that were made using LEGO pieces. This one is more like a LEGO set that looks like a chess set. :search: Quote
BearCrash Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 The details on both sides of the chess board are a nice touch but overall this looks very childish IMO. I was hoping for a new chess set but I think I'll skip this one. Quote
banshee3 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 want. For more minifigs. Another to teach my kids. And a few for well...you know. Profit. Quote
beartrapper Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I can't say that I'm a fan of this new set. While it's probably worth picking up a couple for diversification I'm not into it. Quote
adewar Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Single stud center should improve playability. The kingdoms set has been a little awkward to actually play chess with for me at least. I will definitely be getting this one and a second to moc. Quote
Jules_K Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 This is now available at Shop at Home EU / Asia. I'm not a very big fan of this set but it seems to be good value for 857 pieces and 20 minifigs. Quote
Ciglione Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) What effect will this one have on the older Pirates Chess Set(s)? Good or bad? I like that the playboard is brickbuild. Not a plastic base like the Kingdoms one. Edited March 1, 2015 by Ciglione Quote
Locutus001 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 We need a SW Chessboard! ;-) @Ciglione: I've seen your profile picture that often by now, that each time I think of you I think of that dude on your picture 1 Quote
Alcarin Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Will not buy, because the pawns of Imperial troops have hair instead of their hats, hard to army build an army without their army hats..... Quote
