Hey Everyone,

My name is Ahmed and I'm from Canada. A little about me Is I love comedy, writing, and soccer. I'm 20 years old and working to put myself through university currently!  :help:

As a kid I loved playing with Legos, and recently I read an article on people using Legos as an investment/trading commodity and it just struck me as brilliant. I loved playing with them as a kid, love the world of economics and trading, plus as a student living out on my own for the first time, it seems like something that requires much less start up capital than traditional trading, but also holds the potential to make me some extra money, which is something every student could use!

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself, as well as ask: What is one piece of advice you would give someone starting out totally fresh? This site has been my source of a lot of what I know/have learned since discovering this "community" so if there is any master post/helpful blog posts I may have missed, definitely let me know!

Also, my initial strategy to get my toes wet were to start my portfolio with some Mixels... unfortunately I'm late on the first set but set two has hit the shelves, my reasoning is thus:

1) Only $5/6 bucks per Mixel, which my wallet likes (as i said, im a student)

2) From what i can tell, the first series is doing very well on the secondary market, I understand the Yellow's are in the highest demand but a quick amazon search shows me Teslos going for $40-50 CAD and Vulks going for $8-19 bucks, the Vulks aren't even retired as of yet either... although they are OOS on Lego dot com.

3) The first series was released in March from what I've read, meaning their shelf life/appreciation time to this point is less than a year, which is quite impressive

Understandably not everything in this world is "buy item", "wait", "sell item for more" , so I was hoping for some feedback on this strategy/any helpful info at all.

Thanks guys, and I look forward to getting to know some of you in the future and growing this community!  :imsohappy:

Hello and welcome to your new hobby.

I am sure plenty of people can help you here with mixels but I am not one of them. Also just by using the search function, you can already get alot of information on them.

Succes!

Welcome.

Maybe Mixels is a good place to start your adventure.

The questions I would ask myself in your position:

1. What is the plateau price for a mixel?

2. How will you resell?

3. Is selling Mixels scalable?

Good luck

Welcome to the site Ahmed! As you already did, read the forum. Myself, I started investing before finding this site and made some mistakes. You can prevent that now. Furthermore, follow your instinct and study your local (canadian) market. Here in Europe mixels are not that hot as in the US and Canada. As an example.

These are excellent points. I started buying sets with little idea of what I was going to do with them in the future (other than somehow sell them for profit). I should have done more research and set reasonable goals before jumping in. Then again, it was fun...

Welcome to Brickpicker.  Mixels can be a very good low entry investment that sells well online especially if you can find a deal on them.

Be sure to check out Alpinemaps blog about them if you haven't already.  There is also a few mixels threads you can read.

Welcome!

Pretty much what everyone else said! I would agree mixels would be a good, low risk start at this game to get a little bit of cash flow going. To get the cash flowing, you also need to sell, so it would probably be wise to try to sell some, not all, early on to see if you like that aspect of the business.

Good luck.
