ravenb99 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Started a day earlier than planned, just needed a break from work. First 3 pics are bag 1. Bags 2 and 3 are the exact same thing and are the sides the wings will attach to. Bag 4 is some roof trim on the cockpit. The round roof piece is a pre printed piece. So far 6 stickers (looks like 8 more and the UCS stand sticker). Bag 5 is just some more cockpit trim then the rest are the wings and stands. 1 hour and 20 minutes so far. Looking like it will be around what the X Wing was time wise. The manual is similar to architecture and has a lot of facts and information in the pages leading up to the build. Box is the 23" x 18.5" x 3.5" style box. It is 12 bags total. So far it is 12" wide so guess the wings will be the big part. According to the box it will spin 360 degrees on the stand from what it looks like. 7 Quote
Migration Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 (edited) I can't believe you didn't try and flip that. It does look amazing though. Edited April 11, 2015 by Migration 1 Quote
ravenb99 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I can't believe you didn't try and flip that. It does look amazing though. The QFLL in me did think about it but this is one of the sets I was wanting to build. They'll be plenty of time to flip them too! The wings have to be the bulk of the build based off of the pics compared to the cockpit. Quote
trekgate502 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 You are so lucky to have gotten one of these. Imagine if you could have gotten more! Quote
biking_tiger Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I love the steering column detail. I want to fly one. Quote
gregpj Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I can't believe the middle piece is 12" wide (or almost) ... It just doesn't look that big all by itself. I can't wait to not have room to display it!! With all the talk lately about ethics blah blah quick flip blah blah I for one am proud of you for opening it and building it. Good on you sir!! 1 Quote
ravenb99 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Only got to spend an hour on it tonight. Did bag 5 which finished the cockpit off (those are the first 3 pics). Then the bags get kind of screwy. Have combinations of numbers that you are using. I got to a stopping point which is putting the wing together and finishing the one side of it. Looks like next you work on the other sides trim and detail pieces and connection parts to the center. All the black smooth large sections and smaller ones are covering up the inner parts of the wing. Lots of colors in side there (yellow, brown, blue, tan, etc). Took some photos just so show how big they are compared to the ship's center. The wing is just under 16" tall and 12" wide. Guessing about 1/2 way done at about 2.5 hours total and 7 or so out of the 12 bags. 3 Quote

Popular Post ravenb99 Posted April 14, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 14, 2015 Finished the main build tonight, just have bag 12 which is the stand / minifig. Will try to do that in the morning at the warehouse tomorrow. Looks really good when finished, very sturdy as well. Build time was somewhere in between 4-5 hours , kind of lost track. Now I'm ready for the next UCS SW... 17 Quote
Frogger21 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I feel like one Tie Fighter is not enough. Get 3 of those things behind a Red Five and then it will be more realistic. Haha it's only money right? 2 Quote
hannibal Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Yeah, very impressive indeed! Any chance of posting it next to other SW sets like 10212 or the 10240? Thanks!!! Quote
jaisonline Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Can anyone do size comparison pics of this set with the latest non-UCS Tie and the 10175 UCS Vader Tie? I don't have the Vader set anymore :( Quote
biking_tiger Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Nice! The wings look very substantial. I'm looking forward to building this one soon. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I would like to see this beside Red Five's Starfighter. Hot damn. Quote
oneknightr Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I can't wait to see all the comparison shots with other UCS sets when this is widely available. I can foresee my problem of trying to figure out how many to buy to build and how many to hold. I think this is the first UCS set that I might have to open two or three. I need a fleet of these chasing Red Five! Quote
bricketycricket Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 The model looks really good. The build itself looks pretty lackluster though. Stick a bunch of plates together, and plenty of repetition since the model is perfectly symmetrical. 1 Quote

Couldn't transport it today as the weather was bad. The model looks really good. The build itself looks pretty lackluster though. Stick a bunch of plates together, and plenty of repetition since the model is perfectly symmetrical. the wings are pretty repetitive. The second side I flew through compared to the first . I think that is how Red Five and this are though, look great when finished but both fairly easy builds for the price point. Going to do Slave 1 next and see how that build compares seeing they were all the same pricepoint. 4 Quote

I feel that set blows away the Red 5, especially regarding the build for the same price So, do you feel is the TIE fighter a day 1 purchase after building it? I'm debating it for myself. Quote
NZ-EUG Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 Thanks for all the replys to my post started last year guys! Please post comparrsion photos, of UCS Advanced Tie and Red 5 X- Wing Quote
