I think it has always been that way, with a some exceptions.  I read on Brickset 5 years ago, you make money when you buy a set, not when you sell it.  This is more true today than ever.

75055 and 75054 have made people money even when bought at full RRP and they retired afterwards.

60% off retail should be enough on all but the most mediocre SW sets - 75177 for instance is a turd in waiting.

I doubt any of those stupid buildable figures will ever reach full retail

I don´t even consider them to be sets!

Having said that, Grievous seems to be doing OK here and Vader 1.0 might have too, if it hadn´t been for the remake.

Grievous goes for $55 (RRP $35)
Luke goes for $45 (RRP $20)
Phasma is at $35 (RRP $25)
Heck, even old Darth goes for $44 (RRP $30)
And K-2SO is already at $28 and not even properly retired (RRP $25)

Phasma, Cody, Grievous, Jango, and Luke are all doing quite well, especially considering you could buy these in bulk at 50% off or greater.  

Also, I definitely consider the B-wing a winner.  I purchased mine at a paltry 20% off and am more than doubling my initial investment after fees with a hold time of less than 18 months.

Yep. I knew they were going to be trouble from the time I saw them.  75% off is the only way to make a reasonable profit on them.  Having said that, I am stuck with a few of the buildable figures battle packs.  Forget the price, trying to find someone who will buy them is just as hard.
