Neosphinx Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 3 Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to. 7 Keep your ears open. 9 Opportunity plus instinct equals profit. 10 Greed is eternal. 16 A deal is a deal. 21 Never place friendship above profit. 22 A wise man can hear profit in the wind. 34 War is good for business 35 Peace is good for business 45 Expand or die 48 The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife. 57 Good customers are as rare as latinum. Treasure them 59 Free advice is seldom cheap. 62 The riskier the road, the greater the profit. 74 Knowledge equals profit. 94 Females and finances don't mix. 98 Every man has his price. 109 Dignity and an empty sack is worth the sack. 125 You can't make a deal if you're dead. 168 Whisper your way to success 190 Hear all, trust nothing. 203 New customers are like razor-toothed gree-worms. They can be succulent, but sometimes they bite back. 214 Never begin a negotiation on an empty stomach. 217 You can't free a fish from water. 285 No good deed ever goes unpunished. http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Rules_of_Acquisition#cite_ref-10 Quote

KShine Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Don't get high on your own supply. Of course, if there is a Drug Cartel army storming your house - it couldn't hurt. 1 Quote
Neosphinx Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Is this post a "life lesson / advice" or for Lego buying? I don't know what it is. Just thought I would post the rules of the greatest traders and investors of the galaxy Quote
exciter1 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Don't get high on your own supply. Of course, if there is a Drug Cartel army storming your house - it couldn't hurt. Preach it Tony Montana. I think we have a similar thread to this one, but it was a looooong time ago. Quote

jeff_14 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Is this post a "life lesson / advice" or for Lego buying? I'm confident the Ferengi would have cornered the Lego market at the expense of the Chinese in 300 years. Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 285 No good deed ever goes unpunished. http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Rules_of_Acquisition#cite_ref-10 This has always been my favorite rule. Not to live by, but to remember how true it is from certain point of views. 1 Quote

Darth_Raichu Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Better an empty wallet than a full grave. Already covered by RoA #125. The Ferengis are wiser than most 125 You can't make a deal if you're dead. Quote

jeff_14 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Well, isn't this sexist. Wait, don't these two contradict each other? Yes it is sexist. Doesn't make it any less true than women have babies. The 2 do contradict each other, which is intentionally meant to be funny and describe the amorality of capitalism Quote
jeff_14 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions. Which makes you wonder what the road to heaven is paved with. Bad ones? Quote
cladner Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) He/She who hesitates is lost.* I think this is pseudoty's signature but its gotta be close to the top on the list of lego investing acquisition 10 commandments. Especially true when you come upon a deal you know is great but you don't grab it then and there and then come back later the next day and u got poofed. *The corollary is of course he/she who doesn't hesitate can always return it later. there is a endless lack of hesitation here on bp . MartinP Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Maybe this is worded differently in the list above, but I like to live by the rule: Buy now, think later. When awesome deals are around, buy it before it's gone. If you have buyers remorse, you can always return it. Quote

The 2 do contradict each other, which is intentionally meant to be funny and describe the amorality of capitalism I do not see the contradiction. The rules simply mean any good Ferengi can do good business in war OR peace. * Contemplating about changing my avatar to Quark ;) 1 Quote

j.hermit Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 69 You got to lick it before you stick it. Also, here's some actual wisdom, and I took two extra seconds to make it sound clever: "Automobiles are destroying the environment... and your profit margins." Make sure you keep a close eye on the gas you're using while you're out shopping; that tish gets expensive. Quote

That's awesome!http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Ferengi Overview of the Ferengi from Star Trek for our confused non-trekkie Brickpickers... .. Or just watch Star Trek Deep Space 9 (DS9), available for free to Amazon Prime subscribers. One of the best scifi show ever. The show cleverly presented the different races (Ferengis, Cardassians, Bajorans, Klingons, the Founders, etc) as societies with their own unique rules and customs instead of as "race of the week" (exposed in 1 episode, forgotten in the next). It was well written too with episodes that managed to be distinct yet still part of the bigger continuity. 1 Quote
