Has anyone verified what these numbers and letters mean?

the numbers continue to fit the original theory.  everyone pretty much agrees by now it is [week of the year][production facility][year].  there is absolutely ZERO reason to think otherwise at this point in time.

that is unless you also happen to think the SSD will not be a winner, in which case i wouldn't be surprised at all if you disagreed.

the answer is yes, so far.  in other words, the theory hasn't been disproven.  if you are asking if we have official confirmations as to the exact meaning of these codes, then yes, the answer is no.  it will remain that way.  however, we have learned, from lego, that the letter stands for the region.

by scientific method, the answer is yes.

you can be daft about it if you want.  it doesn't change the facts.

No sir I don't I was simply asking if they it had been confirmed by someone at TLG. Has anyone called to ask what the codes mean? How do we know that the letter stands for the region?

yes, someone called.  they confirmed the region, but did not ask or were not told about the numbers.

this is way off topic.

im actually unsubscribing from this thread.  too much noise.

Just to be skeptical. Have people here confirmed the meaning with the other sets too? I know the FB also has those types of characters on the tabs.

well, just take a look here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ETeqoGQ_bs3ESVQmdGcDAn3X9mGEVe2d7eGOjcyLxrA/pubhtml

All [0-9][0-9][A-Z][0-9] format codes are in line with lifetime of many sets.

Nice job with the list.  I have added a Packing Code textbox to the brickfolio, so if you chose to want to start populating that, then I can start to group and aggregate data to see what is going on here.  It will automatically remove and uppercase the data so that it is formatted nicely.

How badly do you want that other information added?  I have no problems adding it, but I just want to know if what percentage of people will really fill out the case pack info or the other codes that you are tracking there.

Verified (does not equal) "the theory hasn't been disproven". Stephen asked if it was verified.

This thread seems to change its title even more often than I change my underwear!  However, it's interesting to see the depths that some people go to to find EOL information.  I'm hoping we come up with an accurate "formula" to help us.  Keep up the good work!

I am not sure what to think about your first sentence. Seriously could go in so many directions :)

Doesn't it generally go in just one direction? As Shrek waxed so poetically, "Better out than in, I always say."

the chance of having stuff shipped in lego cases is fairly low for majority, so I would skip that for now, but maybe have it as an option in new release of brickfolio?

Ty all for the input.3 GE's it will be :-)

good choice.

like rock said, pick one and have no regrets.

personally, I would go with the 3 GEs and never look back.   The Fire Brigade showed us how the modular completists adore this theme (much like Winter them fans) and will PAY secondary market prices. This is one of 3 or 4 themes that staying available for retail for 4+ years won't hurt too bad.  The global demand is there like Star Wars sets.   While the GE might not jump in price like the fabulous looking FB, it's a corner.

I can easily see the GE tripling in price in 2-3 years after EOL to $450 (or $1,350 3 sets).   I'm not sure 10221 will hit $1,350 w/in 3 years post EOL after the initial price jump (like what we have been experiencing with retirement rumors).    I can be completely wrong with my prediction but my gut tells me to go w/ the GEs.

I can't believe someone who supposedly likes Lego actually makes these calculations. It's like a watch collector saying, this casio watch that's worth $10 shows the time so much nicer than Patek Philippe worth $20k because of the price ratio. Or ...you get much better time value out of your watch! What a logic!

Do we really think the person who buys the MF actually sits down and calculates the price per piece before spending his

So much hostility for so little reason...  Your customers are real people who have to make real choices about how to spend their money.  Go read the Amazon or Lego reviews for this set.  Most are not from these mindless collectors of whom you speak, who will spend any price (any price!) to have a 4-foot SSD on display in their living room.  Indeed, most of the end buyers of this set are and will be parents of young children.  Wealthy parents?  Well, yes.  But not infinitely so, and they will absolutely consider the relative value of a single SSD versus $650 worth of other lego sets, notably including the new SD playset.  Seriously, this view of collectors as mindless automatons who must have a single set and will mortage the house to buy it is nonsense.  Most buyers, even of post-EOL sets, are parents of children, and even the "pure" collectors who desire sets only for display have budgets.

On a lighter note, I may need to rewatch Episode V and look for the Executor.  I only remember standard SD's from The Empire Strikes Back.  What I really remember, of course, is the awesome AT-AT's on hoth.  Even if the Executor was there, it didn't do any fighting.  In fact, it blew up in the next movie without ever firing a shot.  What a waste of Imperial credits...

This doesn't seem like "young children" set to me.  Maybe the DS or the Sandcrawler, or Ewok Village, but not this one.

If I have a customer asking about this, I would ask them why they want it.

If they said that their child wants it, I would try to down sell them to the smaller set

Everytime I hear someone wanting the UCS falcon it's because it's the one on websites, the news, the books and it's big.

I've told many a people that it's not a toy, it's a display model, kids can't carry it around and it's price is too high to be treated as anything but a collectible.

Id rather sell a well informed 7965 than try to sell a big falcon.

Then you seriously need to rewatch it, because Vader spends most of the movie on the Executor. Here's its badass introduction:

Makes sense to me, and that's the honest thing to do as a seller.  But in all seriousness, take a look at the 10221 reviews on Amazon and Lego.  People really do buy this set for and build it with their young children.  Even at the current $650 price, I'd venture that at least half the buyers are parents buying (essentially) for their children.  As these parents increasingly come across the new SD in stores and online for $130, many (most?) will choose the smaller set, which in addition to being cheaper is also a much better deal (true even when the SSD was "only" $400) by any metric save "but I have to have a SSD!"
