If you never sell any sets are they really worth anything? :)

Is that the sound of one hand clapping I hear?  Or is it a tree falling in the forest :).

Question is, how many sets will be sold at $1000 between now and December ?

based on number of sellers @ amazon. it hasn't reduced much (similar 56-60) sellers from what we had last month. only that price has been increased.

i will be selling some whenever it crosses that $1000 mark.  and move some $$ to my daughter's college fund :)

I like your strategy : )

Just remember that $1000 has a lot of psychological resistance on the buyer's side. $999.99 vs. $1000...that one penny matters.

But once the market breaks that threshold...what is the next barrier... $1999? :D

onward and upward. that slo-mo has one thing written all over it. MONEY!

its nice of them to make the average loaded uneducated consumer think that the MSRP was $800, so whats another $1k?

When they hit $1000-1200 I am going to be selling 2 of these, with 46 selling 2 is nothing, one mistake I made was I should of stuck with 20 TB, instead of buying 30, This way I could of gotten 6 more SSD, Like I always say you will always regret not buying more of the right Exclusives, I have been telling everybody on here for over 2 years to buy, buy and buy these, now I no alot of you have quite a few of them, and the guys that I talked to on the phone I nagged you guys over and over to get them, and I hope you have alot of them. I really gets to me that I didn't get more of certain sets, I go to sleep and wake up thing about it.   Ed

Someone snagged one NEW for 125 euros on BL this month - got to wonder what the actual content was but if it was complete, more than a few will be kicking themselves for missing out. Growth in Europe is much much more moderate but I suppose we are 5 months behind in retirement date and it is a smaller market to absorb higher priced sets. Perhaps a real sale value of double MSRP will be feasible by the end of the year.

Seeing $950 FBA on Amazon. Truly impressive. My ONLY concern is that a new Ep 7 UCS SD could provide SOME COMPETITION for funds. (if one ever exists, of course) We've seen the ship in the trailer and it looks pretty cool.

I know as an OT guy, i only want OT stuff. BUT the new stuff is SO reminiscent of the OT that if i have a decision between a baddass looking NEW UCS Star Destroyer for 399.99 OR buying the SSD for $1200,,,,,,,,,i'm going to be tempted to put off buying the SSD till later.

Not EVERYONE will act that way, but if even a few are, that DOES impact the SSD.

I have a few SSD's stashed away, so i'm not a major player in this. I'll be tempted to move them if it hits 1K plus shipping costs. Patience may NOT be a virtue.

Or maybe i'm trying to get you all to flush your inventory so i can hold long term. :)

Holy crap I completely missed this announcement. Is there a link (and other UCS on the horizon??)

Yeah, i said "If one ever exists, of course"

Pure speculation.

Rather than re-doing the Star Destroyer, or the SSD, i could see them doing this thing. And i could see me buying it.

Would i RATHER have this than an OT SD or SSD?  No. But would i rather spend $399.99 on one of these vs $1k or $2k on the old ones......maybe.

It seems clear to me, that the key to making Ep 7 a success is making it feel as much like the OT as possible. From JJ Abrams to Kathleen Kennedy to the cast. Everyone is on point in their messaging. This movie will feel like the OT, and not like the prequels.

They're re-using all the classic most popular ships in only slightly modified forms.

The planets even remind you of OT planets

They're pushing practical effects and Jim Henson-esque muppet like aliens.

All that being said, they know the best way to grease the skids for success is for old folks like us to say, YEAH that's my star wars. If that's the case, i can see lego focusing on the most OT-like ships for their UCS brand.  I know some have speculated that the next rumored UCS set is a hoth set, perhaps an AT-AT, perhaps a crashed AT-AT, perhaps the Snow base we see in the trailer for Ep7.

To me, the next EP 7 UCS will be a ship that KINDA looks like an OT ship. That means Xwing, Tie, Falcon, Star Destroyer (all seen in the trailers). We've JUST gotten both the Xwing and Tie in UCS format. Which would be more likely for the UCS treatment from EP 7? Falcon or SD? I think this beast.

This set confuses me.  No rare pieces, just the minifigs and stickers.  There have been threads on what to bricklink at reasonable rates and this and the ucs ds ii seem to be often mentioned.

Can be bricklinked for far cheaper than misb or used complete prices being currently offered, as I actually just did this not too long ago.  Just have to build the damn thing when I get some time :)

I get that its a ucs exclusive, sw ot, vaders whip, etc, but still, what am i missing?! And I still think the ucs isd >>>>>>> ssd.

10179 and 10030 make sense to me, this not so much.  When i started looking to bricklink this thing new misb could be had at $530-550, I guess even at that price point it was still a good investment from a resale perspective as it just seems to keep going up.

Well enough rambling, whoever has these stockpiled, it seems they will be printing $$$ for awhile :)

You brought up several of the reasons why the set is a great investment but you forgot one of them, which is the fact that there is 3,500 pieces in the set. It is the 9th largest set that Lego has produced. The size of the set is amazing when it is built! Also, when I looked at bricklink for a SSD MISB, the lowest prices that I could see was in the $700 - $750 range.

This is a good point, the sheer number of pieces and amount of shipping cost per transaction would likely inflate the brick-linked cost of this set significantly. How many hours do you spend cataloguing and searching for individual parts before your $/hr cost is greater than a couple extra hundred bucks to buy it pre-boxed, pre-sorted, 100% complete?
