MartinP
Anyone wanna trade (if they have one) a spare SSD for some MISB Harry Potter sets? Maybe you should post this trade in the Brick Trader. I'm sure someone will want to trade a SSD for some HP sets.

Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker You can BUT. You have already paid 38% over retail and let's say you cash out at 1100 after fees. Your return is 100% and very healthy. The alternative with your $550 is to buy 3 GE and a Camper van (or whatever you want to spend $550 on). The question that only you can answer is will your $550 be better spent on a SSD or on the 4 sets mentioned on the example. One other thing you can do if you really want one is sell sets at a healthy profit and buy it for $550 now (example 3 b-wings that you got for $100 on may 4 would net you one SSD). The bottom line is that the only way to invest in everything is if you have tens of thousands of disposable dollars. Ex Astris, Scientia. laeriq
Stupid double post. Not a huge fan of the app. I have 2 already at retail...thinking number 3 would be a keeper paid for by the first two. My 6 year old would be stunned. Even if we didn't build for a few years. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker
Ed Mack
I think what many of you who are still sitting on the fence with this set have to realize is that this is not the Fire Brigade, Tower Bridge or Grand Emporium or any other non-UCS/large/exclusive STAR WARS set that has recently retired or is close to retiring. This is the Big Boy of STAR WARS LEGO sets that was just marked EOL. The prices will only go up from here and in my opinion, much faster than other large LEGO set over the next 12-15 moinths. The new STAR WARS movies will act as a shot of HGH to this and other STAR WARS sets. It's already happening. I expect faster than normal appreciation for STAR WARS sets over the next year...especially this set. I know you can go buy 3 or 4 Grand Emporiums for the price of one current SSD at $600 and still do very well, but my gut tell me this set is going to explode. Take it for what it's worth. The STAR WARS buzz hasn't even really started yet and it is affecting the LEGO secondary market, wait till it ramps up in 6-8 months.
sroster
AND you can go buy 3-4 GEs with the same money but also it will be restocked probably and not officially retire until Jan 2015 perhaps? This has the retired label, is going to blast off in price and you will turn big profit with one sale. I'd buy them at $550 on craigs list if I saw one.

The B-Wing is still slowly appreciating still and will probably end up at $300-400 in a few more years itself as SW collectors want to finish a ship collection. LegoBuildingMama
I agree that this set is a gold mine. If you look at the number available for sale and the demand that already exists and add in that this is a Star Wars set, it's easy to see this passing $1000 in the next month or two. When I compare it to the Death Star (which I also see as a big winner), the supply is tiny. The only variable that I don't know for sure is how many of these all of you guys are sitting on. I'm not selling any of mine until they hit the $1500 mark. I'm hoping that with the new movie coming up, it will approach that price by Christmas 2015. Satch123
With this set still being available in uk right now. What's your thoughts on buying 1 more now. I have 2 already. iahawks550
It's funny...I had an old CL ad to sell the 10221 for $600 and have had no replies for two months. Today, I got one. He tried talking me down. You guys have convinced me to hold my stock.

No one has the answer to which option will be most lucrative. SSD's, Campervans and Grand Emporiums will all return good profits. Make a decision, either way you won't be disappointed. LegoBuildingMama
Satch123: I would buy the SSD while they're in stock. Theoretically you could save some more money up in the next month or two and grab more Campers and Emporiums. One thought about the campers, is that they're light and very easy to ship overseas. The SSD packaged is very close to the size limitations for overseas shipping. I would personally grab SSD now and work to try and grab a couple of the others. It never hurts to diversify. Darth_Raichu
I just hope LEGO Shop at Home brings them back at 50% off again. One more time! You kept repeating that 50% deal as if you were trying to convince yourself that ever happened. On related note, I saw SSD on sale for 20% off once.

There is actually no safe way for a US eBay seller to ship SSD internationally through USPS. Because of the cost of the set, PayPal/eBay will require you to get signature confirmation, which in my experience is impossible through USPS. Even Express Mail, which theoretically offers it, in reality does not (my experience with it, even to countries with decent postal systems like Canada and Australia, is that you never end up with a recipient's signature viewable online, which is what it takes to protect yourself in an "item not received" case of this value). You can always take a chance and ship internationally anyway, but be aware that an international buyer has a 100% chance to win a "not received" dispute if they feel like filing one. You can ship by FedEx/UPS instead, but your shipping cost will triple or more relative to USPS. It is a factor in favor of smaller sets (that extra premium you can get by offering overseas shipping), but even 10220 is pushing it for "safe" international shipping unless you plan to sell at $200 or less (before shipping; since the buyer's shipping charge will factor into their payment, and once it exceeds $250, the signature requirement applies). Regarding SSD price appreciation: at some of the prices people are talking about, you're getting close to 10030 range. I think it's a huge stretch to suggest that 10221 will approach 10030 in price -- we have a 2011 set vs. a 2002 set, and every review I've read comparing the two suggests that 10030 makes the more impressive display piece. The piece count is similar (10030 was a much better deal at MSRP), so anyone who argues that 10221 will come within even a few hundred dollars of 10030 is really downplaying the effect of far greater rarity (and superior display attributes) of the earlier set. 10030 is simply much more 3-D than 10221. Any number of youtube videos will show you the two side by side, and the difference in height and detail is striking. 10221 is longer, but nearly flat and featureless over half its topside. SSD is already an investment winner, but some of these predictions of future value seem really dubious. It will be interesting to see if people act on these predictions. If I see SSD at $1500 by Christmas 2015, then obviously I'm going to max out my credit cards and load up on eBay at $650 - $700. I'd be crazy not to do that. My credit card company charges me 20%, but I'm looking at a 100% return! So let's see if those $650 - $700 eBay listings really do get gobbled up over the next few days and weeks. If not, it suggests that people are not backing up their opinions with their investing dollars.

Just ask emazers, who's been shipping through USPS Priority Express Mail for years. It might be one of the only ways to ensure delivery, but I'd trust EBay's Global Shipping Program as well. holleman67
Why would you ship this thing internationally anyway but gsp? You get it to Kentucky safe and then the rest is up to eBay. They screw up and you still get paid. Sounds like a win to me
