Mos_Eisley Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I suppose it was only a matter of time before she was caught.http://www.glendalenewspress.com/news/tn-gnp-me-lego-worker-arrested-for-allegedly-stealing-thousands-of-dollars-in-merchandiese-20140728,0,5572581.story Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Lanisa Williams, 29, admitted to police that she had stolen boxes of LEGO merchandise, some valued at more than $400, during the past year and a half, said Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot. Now you know why the store rarely has DSs and SSDs in stock.. :P 1 Quote
@rtisan Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 There is no point to steal anything. Get you $%&# together, go to school/get a job, work hard, get a bit of luck, etc. Stealing is an easy cop-out from doing work (there are exceptions), but there is no reason to do stupid things like this. Quote
Ed Mack Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How the heck do you you walk out of a store with a SSD or DS? LOL Quote
@rtisan Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How the heck do you you walk out of a store with a SSD or DS? LOL A very large Gucci bag? Quote
justafrog Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How the heck do you you walk out of a store with a SSD or DS? LOL I am not an expert on malls, but many (most?) of the stores have back entrances for deliveries and employees use - if she was an assistant manager, loading up the car and locking up after everyone else went home was probably fairly simple. 1 Quote

Probably true. Tossing them in the dumpster. Nice. 1 Quote
gregpj Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 The other guy had 300 sets valued at $50k which averages out to $167 a pop. They weren't stealing speedorz and battle packs. Probably true. Tossing them in the dumpster. Nice. I hope it wasn't the Quizno's dumpster because we all know someone would have found them before she could get back to them.. 3 Quote
toycrazedchris Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 At least now we know where are the extra SSD and GE's are coming from! Quote
kishidan69 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Always interesting to read about Lego crime - probably the only toy product that continues to entice some over to the morally corrupt Dark Side... Quote

justafrog Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Always interesting to read about Lego crime - probably the only toy product that continues to entice some over to the morally corrupt Dark Side... Surely you jest. Maybe the biggest (though Barbie isn't giving up the tiara without a fight, I'm sure) target for thievin', but by no means the only. Selling stolen goods is a fact of life from lipstick to Lionel trains to luggage tags to Purina Lion Chow. Quote
justafrog Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Jeff and Ed may have to close that Brickfolio... I was wondering if the buyer was one of us - one of us - one of us. Quote

Huskers1236 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I was wondering if the buyer was one of us - one of us - one of us. I do remember a fellow a while back that had a "hookup" and kept getting cheap exclusives. I'm not saying, but I'm saying. Quote
exciter1 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Probably true. Tossing them in the dumpster. Nice. A good BrickPicker would have saved them from the dumpster long before her shift ended. Quote
Migration Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 If twenty years in retail taught me anything it's that internal theft is easy to catch. I've probably seen a couple hundred employees and managers get walked out of stores that I worked at in hand cuffs. Quote
tonysbricks Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Jeff and Ed may have to close that Brickfolio... That is who I thought of too. I even made the comment that the only way you get them that cheap is out the back door. Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How the heck do you you walk out of a store with a SSD or DS? LOL I guess if you are super fat. Quote

That is true, but how do you account for the loss of inventory on her shift, especially on that type of scale? She was bound to get caught. If she was smart, she would have done it a little at a time over an extended period of time.....not that I condone stealing. I think what she did was wrong. She got greedy and is now going to pay the price. Quote
slidemaster44 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 This clip has shows a picture of the worker and the stolen legos. I remember her helping me a couple of times. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2014/07/30/woman-arrested-for-stealing-thousands-of-dollars-worth-of-legos-from-glendale-store/ Quote

I was not claiming she was bright or a master thief, just addressing the question as to how she could have easily removed the sets from the store. Quote
Cetona Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I remember her helping me one time too- she dropped a GE I bought while trying to put it in the bag and dented the corner. Quote

Some stores may not even take inventory, until they surprisingly notice $50,000 of merch missing. Quote
