In the past, several BrickPicker members have asked us how we post affiliate links.  Many members have been very helpful with posting affiliate information when they post new links in the Daily Deals threads.

Please support BrickPicker by using our affiliates. BrickPicker gets a very small percentage of any sales through the affiliate programs.  These affiliate purchases will help to keep the site, databases, and software costs in check. We hope you like BrickPicker and all the information here, the great services here cost money and the site is free. Try to help support us in keeping it that way.  The costs can be significant, especially the information provided from EBay for the Brickfolio information.

Sometimes you will see new members post information about cashback sites or credit card affiliates.  We either have filters in place to censor the names of the sites, or mods will usually delete the posts when members discuss cashback programs, etc.  It's not that we hate or don't believe in other cashback programs, we just want to promote the use of BrickPicker and the use of our affiliate program is another way you can help keep the site afloat and to bring new services that provide great LEGO information and tools to assist you in making good investment choices.

If you look at the links in the Daily Deals main post, many have affiliate tags in them.  I highlighted the tags in red.

What would be really cool is a popup widget that has a link visible on all forum pages in the header or footer.  A reader can paste the clean URL of what product they are seeing on another site into a text box.  Then the popup displays the affiliate-appended text and copies to clipboard.  Reader then pastes the correctly formatted link into the forum post.

great post. just wanted to add that the site will get a cash back on any eligible product you buy -not just lego/toys- provided you use the aff link...

Correct, if you're buying diapers or eyeliner at Target.com, you can use an affiliate link.  If you're buying the latest season of "The Simpsons" or a hedge trimmer at Amazon.com, you can use an affiliate link.  If you're buying trash cans or Duck Dynasty apparel at Walmart.com, you can use an affiliate link.

I think features like this will be built-in to Daily Deals 2.0 when it's released.

One of the main things with the new Daily Deals is that you will click a button to add a new deal for Amazon, eBay or most of the other retailers that we talk about here. If I have any type of affiliation with them (some don't offer any at all), it will create a new listing and add the appropriate code/link/etc to it.

I still think it would probably take at most two hours for Jeff to add auto-affiliation modification, so it would autofix posted links

When the forum V4.0 update comes out, which should be sooner rather than later, I will be more than happy to hire you to help build that if you are interested.  I have more than enough projects on my plate and know you can do a good job with it.

I believe auto-affiliation of the links would also be useful outside of Daily Deal Thread. Anyone post a link to amazon anywhere - caboom, auto-affiliated...  And yes, I certainly well aware of how busy you are - I just assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that auto-affiliation modification of the links in posts is a common thing and a part of some module at the back-end. I also assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that since affiliate revenue is important to cover the expenses, it might be prioritized :-)

Edit: I guess it is not really that common. Meaning not common enough to have have generic solution.  http://jeffbeeman.com/node/307

The forum software is not ours and a new version is coming out.  We cannot make a module for it because we won't know if the new forum software(which is in Beta now) will work with it.  Jeff showed me the new Daily Deals on Saturday and it solves most of these issues.  The new Twitter feed is a part of it.

The links under the current forum banner for the october offers has a different offerId in the URL parameters. Does that matter?

(it might not, but it sure is annoying because that link takes you to a "free shipping" page which won't let you keep shopping without altering the URL)

Sorry, I can't check it out here, since Linksynergy is blocked at work.  One of the other mods might be able to do a little interim investigation.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hello,

I am unable to use the target affiliate tag above.  It looks to me like it is only missing "rl" at the end but I am not sure and would like confirmation so that I may add them to future URLs.

http://goto.target.com/c/65738/81938/2092?u

Thanks.

This is a URL to the LEGO stuff on Target.com

http://goto.target.com/c/65738/81938/2092?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.target.com%2Fbp%2Flego

Basically the main part of the link is:

http://goto.target.com/c/65738/81938/2092?u=

I have updated the link for Canada, the others seem to be working fine.

Jeff, you need to add if there are more stuff at the end of the Amazon link, use '&' instead of '?'. Only one ? after the '/' after the product link. Other references should follow by &. I saw even exciter1 could make mistake like this (no offense, exciter1), just afraid that BP not getting credit for potential purchases.

I am not sure if you are referring to a link in this thread or another one.  I don't have much of a chance to check over each link so it can happen.

Switched to Firefox and it works. Thanks. IE sucks.

just a compatibility issue, depending on what platforms the template of the site is mainly targeting to. I dropped IE after Chrome came out. But I have noticed Chrome asks a lot of resource, not too bad a problem if you have a powerful desktop. Google noticed the issue but I think so far it hasn't been fixed yet (!!! I was surprised too. They probably have a lot of higher priority.). Lately I realized how badly/wasteful that is to my laptop so now I completely switched back to IE. Only when I quote like this do I start Chrome. lol
