Depends if you have the space. This set will take a very long time to x2 msrp imo

Yeah, what if they haven´t updated the stock computer and there´s only one left?

I agree that this set will be more of a slow burner than the recent SW retirements but it should receive its own shot in the arm later next year with the new film. People will hate Ben Affleck and the new Batmobile will probably be based on a Lexus or Infiniti so folk will go back to the old one! Time will also tell how those extra days of hoarding time pan out with supply and demand.

IMO, this set is definitely not one to stockpile on. I'm at 2 and I'm good. I would not buy anymore unless it was ridiculously cheap, and I do not see that happening. I think the opportunity cost is too high investing in multiple of these sets.

Agreed.

I believe, that the tumbler has high potential to raise. For example when I've seen the dark knight, the tumbler was one of the most imposive Innovation. I was absoluteley impressed by that. The tumbler will be the best Batmobil ever.

I think you nailed it. Can not agree more.

Compared to what other sets? It's all relative.

With a new batmobile in the new movie there is a risk that the tumbler won't be more than a novelty in the long history of batman vehicles. It only exists in 3 movies and looks nothing like the normal batmobile. Even the new one looks a bit more true to the source.

Its cool for sure and those were some popular movies. But I don't see any future investors (current kids?) being all that interested in tracking it down. I'm not sure many people are attached to the design at all. But I'm more a marvel guy than DC so what do I know. Generally for toys I shy away from movie themes and stick to classic comic designs as they hold their value better. This goes for transformers too.

I do own one. But just the one.

Just out of curiosity, what do you perceive to provide a better opportunity cost?  The $200 that you aren't going to spend on another Tumbler would instead provide a higher return in, say, December 2016, on ... a .... what ... exactly?

Another Pet Shop? Doubt it. Red Five? Maybe... but doubt it. Anything with a minifigure named Bart or Homer? Seriously doubt it.  T1 or Mini-Coopers? Definitely doubt it. Tower Bridge? Opera House? TFA? Jurassic World? 6 x Birds at $35 a piece? Actually that's a maybe....

If you could find a pair of ISDs or ATATs for $100 a piece, today, then I would concede that one. But I don't think you can.

So what is the opportunity you're losing out on by tying up another $200 in a Tumbler?

I think you are trying to ask what investment vehicle do I think is better than the Tumbler, and I would rather put $200 in the stock market than another Tumbler.

Cheers

For the record, I actually like Ben Affleck. I really do. Loved him in Good Will Hunting, loved The Town, really just a fan overall. I even own the Criterion Collection of Armageddon. Seriously.

But his Batman is going to bomb. It just is. Period.

Do you know who the happiest guy in America is right now? Val Kilmer. Yes, he is so fat he looks like he ate Slider (and Wolfman, and Goose, and Merlin, and probably even Jester), but he is very happy. Because in a few months he will no longer be remembered as the worst Batman of all time.

If you think the Dark Knight series (or the Tumbler) will ever become just a novelty, I strongly disagree.  Watch them again.

Oh goodness no, to the stock market.  Simple fact that one will not loose money on a tumbler, good luck with that in the stock market.  It amazes me how deep these threads go on the unending debate for every set, with all the same questions and answers.  Tumbler will do fine,  it will beat almost all other alternative asset classes on a year over year basis.  That does not mean 50-100% return in 12 months.

I know. I honestly couldn't even respond to the stock market argument. I just had to walk away from that one.

Wasn't George Clooney the worst Batman?

Stay away from The Tumbler! High retail price, never was on sale, semi-limited availability, retiring soon tag, crappy trilogy (Bay > Nolan), 7888 rip-off, exclusive minifigs, etc. I'd prefer 10544 over this set. =p

Nope not anymore. He is gonna be in the new Top Gun. That picture you saw was from a while back.

Show me a not-fat picture of Val Kilmer holding today's newspaper.

I have found 8 x ISDs at $99 over the past 3 days so it can be done.

Its all good, soon enough there will be no debates because all sets won't be worth jack! Then we can talk about what lego is really for.......building.

I should clarify my skepticism on this set... There is no way it won't be a good investment.  No big exclusive has gone down in value that I am aware of.  Double MSRP in a couple years should be easy.  But are there better options?  Likely.  Does it have super high end potential ($600-800+)? Unlikely.  It may follow the path of Arkham Asylum.  A great set but slow to appreciate so far.
