From what I remember, this set has been limited to one per person at LEGOSHOP since it was released. A short lifespan and a HUGE fanbase will make this set a winner. I've been somewhat dormant from a LEGO investment standpoint, as I have so many other hobbies preoccupying me (right now it's silver/bronze age comics), but this set has woken me up! This is an absolute must have set in my opinion. For those who don't believe in this license/movie, I assure you there's a strong fan base. A few years back, Hot Toys' Tumbler was going for over $2K, from original retail price of $400. Seeing that there was money to be made, HOt Toys re-released the Tumbler and of course, OG Tumbler prices fell...but prices on ebay have picked up a bit and are sitting around $900 or so on ebay. As long as LEGO doesn't get greedy and starts re-releasing sets, this will be one of the good pick-ups in 3-5 years. This and R5 are the only big sets i've stocked up on as I see great potential in them . Got a great buy in on them too. Tempted to grab one more before they disappear but only if i can get a discount.
Yinchuan
It was awfully kind of Lego to slap a clear retiring soon tag on a product that has been out less than two years. Perhaps a small present and token of appreciation for messing with us on the rest of their line all year!
mayor
Projection> What do you believe The Tumbler price range will be 6mos after it retires, none around, 1 yr?, 2 years, beyond 5 years? Can it, will it, catch up to the SW MF? Go ahead, project a sensible price.

biking_tiger
Looking at % growth, wouldn't the Tumbler have to hit $2K to match the MF? I don't see it happening for at least 10 years, if then. But I'll say this--I was out with a buddy a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned wanted the LEGO Tumbler. He doesn't collect Lego, but he wanted the Tumbler. It has that kind of crossover appeal like the Falcon.
legopocalypse
Lol at comparing its potential to 10179. I so wish this just retired surprisingly instead of the retiring soon label. Now plenty of resellers will be able to acquire much more than they would have, had it poofed surprisingly. It will still do well but not as well as it could've without the retiring soon tag.
Migration
Really depends on how soon is "soon". If it disappears in a week that tag won't make any difference. If it lingers for six months ala' EEE then, thats a bit problematic.
Yinchuan
Hard to wipe out a supply with only a limit of one, but I think these will vanish far quicker than EEE. Don't go bananas though, people. They might be inspired to "make more"
diablo2112
I'd be happy at $350 1 year after EOL. Slow growth after that.

HandyHand
Just look at how ToO is fairing on eBay in Europe. It retired last August here and its already sold above €300. Tumbler and ToO are quite comparable in size, price, uniqueness for their LEGO series. And I think the Tumbler will do even better than ToO!

I think Tumbler is for sure more hoarded by investors but the demand may be also bigger than ToO

I think for those that follow this forum got plenty of hints from limit reduction to it going out of stock to available several times and amazon doing the dance as well. IMO ToO got plenty of notice. However, Tumbler has been limit 1 from LEGO Shop at Home for the entire year. So not as easy to hoard in comparison to able to order 5 at a time. I think there is a bigger market for Batman merchandise than Lord of the Rings. They will always be making super heroes movies, comics, cartoons etc. Whereas LOTR a whole different story. If we see a new UCS Batmobile from the new Batman vs Superman movie, we will def. see people wanting this for those new into collecting.
pete411
Here in the US, this set has been widely available at Lego Stores and online at SAH, Amazon, Toys R Us (OOS now), Walmart, Barnes and Noble, and Target. With minimal effort. one can stockpile a dozen plus in a given week so you better believe that It's been, and will be hoarded by the horde. That said, I think this set will be highly collectible but as with any exclusive in the modern Lego reselling market, it will be a slow climb to 2x RRP.
brickolodon
i do not care, just got 10 more from couple different sources...looks like Target best way to buy.
inversion
It has a 20% discount in Hungary atm in a local store. Other sets too, like SOH, Tie, Ewok, Helicarrier, Slave I and all the modulars. Plus they are giving polys. Time to get a SOH and Ewok for me Contemplating on Heli. labfreak7
I would suspect that this has been an underperforming set for Lego- hence the retiring soon tag. That said it is an awsome looking model but has zero play factor as the wheels do not move. It will cater to afol's but if it is heavily hoarded which I expect is the case by now it will rise slowly. This kind of set will not be remade, so it will be a 3-5 year hold in my opinion to really start to see the dollar signs. Anyone who thinks that there is not a lot of reseller competition is kidding themselves.

I want to clear up this misconception that appears to confuse so many. ALL Lego sets are heavily hoarded. However it's not so much the amount of stock on the secondary market that depicts its price but more the demand.

conceptmachine
I reckon amazon will have them for some time. 2/week right now.
tractorboy
Demand and availability are related to each other. A high demand/low availability ratio means a higher price. I think demand should be quite good for this, even in EU. Availability shouldn't be too high I would think. It will be hoarded of course, but not as much as the GE for example IMHO.
Miami Bomb Squad
Let's Just hope Lego doesn't get greedy ALSO, and hit us up with 3-4 more Production Runs. That "Retiring Soon" Tag is put there for a reason.
Guest
I keep hearing they are hard to hoard yet emazers got his massive target so I'm sure plenty of other re-sellers have their 50+ too.
