I wish it went the other way around with the US getting a surprise retirement. I was ready for this. Now I have to wait for that girl, her uncle, Big head Joe and your dentist to sell their 30 Tumbblers first.

Hey, don't dorget the soccer moms. They have cornered their fair share of the Tumbler market as well!

Can we please stop posting box conditions? No one cares, and it's not Tumbler-specific. Every day I see there's a new page in this thread, but when I skim through it, it's just:

  • My box sucks. [Picture]
  • Yep, that box sucks.
  • Mine weren't so bad. [Picture]
  • Walmart shipping sucks.
  • Ugh, all of my boxes suck.
  • [Quote: Ugh all of my boxes suck.] Better than mine—look. [Picture]
  • Target shipping sucks.
  • Does this box suck enough that I should return it? [Picture]
  • [Quote: Does this box suck enough that I should return it?] Nope.
  • [Quote: [Quote: Does this box suck enough that I should return it?] Nope.] Yup.
  • Amazon shipping sucks.
  • Amazon shipping sucks.
  • Mods, please delete double-post.
  • My boxes didn't suck! Yay!

Just to counter - your list is exactly why I like BP.

When it starts devolves into stock-bot alerts and reselling brags is where I tune out.

It's ok having something marked as retiring soon but if you can only buy a few over that period it is meaningless. Aside from that DS gave a huge sniff this summer, if you go back on the DS thread you might realise that was the case.

True and so did Red 5 but the difference is that SW hype has helped shift much more units of both. It´s all about supply AND demand.

Maybe I misunderstand your post, but "retiring soon" means nothing is a low indicator on the LEGO Shop at Home , many sets have the "retiring soon" logo for months, it's a way to help sales for old sets...

It´s as big a red flag as you can have. If it doesn´t sell out that means they have either produced a boatload (exo) and want to empty the warehouse or people aren´t buying (brick bounty). People can argue about it as much as they want but of the 3 important sets marked with retiring soon on the same day and with max 1 limit, Tumbler was the last to die. That´s not pure coincidence.

You know what, instead of being negative about every set people give opinions on . Why dont you put up something yourself?

My fault, I've made a mistake and realize I thought we were talking the "hard to find" logo...

I read the LEGO Shop at Home in french so I have mingled these two status... (I don't remember what was written in french, because I didn't care at that time, I was playing darts drinking beer with my friend ciglione)

I think you're overstating it. Tumbler was labelled retiring soon over Christmas which is a busy, expensive and distracting time of year for everybody. I think more people missed the boat on Tumbler than you think. It went from available now to retired very quickly compared to many sets from last year. Even TH did a dance that lasted weeks as it came in and out of stock before finally going, and that's a set that many people consider as having gone quickly. I think it's clear Lego just wanted this one gone for whatever reason (Batcave? new movie?). I don't think it was because they were having trouble selling them.

I am just repeating the same opinion that Ed Mack mentioned earlier in the week and which I stated myself way back in December. This set is no loser or turkey but it´s not going to be the next 10179 either and the hype over this thing since before it was even released is unbelievable. I have one and can still get more but I wonñt because my current portfolio has better sets in it and I don´t want to expand it further.

Some of the sets that I have defended as great investments from 2015 are Birds, Villa Savoye, 42025 and Red 5. Please feel free to give disagree with reasons, it´s an open forum.

My friend Biniou and I discussed about this this evening while drinking beer and playing darts. We think it will even out. Just like Botchy said. Super Heroes are far more popular in the US than here in Europe. So it was good the yanks had more units to digest. If it would be the other way around us poor europeans would be in the boat once again.

Now... in Europe it can grow in value nicely.

And to stay on topic: Although I only have two. Fortunately the box condition does not suck.

They had less trouble selling  Red5 and DS, as have Ebayers since then. We don´t know how much stock was remaining of each when the tags were put up but I´d like to think that any reseller worth their salt is paying attention to SAH, especially in Q4 and if they see a retiring soon tag, acted on it. Your average lego shopper who is not so focused probably missed all three and had to go to the secondary market as shops were OOS of all of them pretty fast too - even then, I believe Smyths still got more Tumblers through whereas the other 2 had long since poofed - I may be mistaken.

I agree, it was all "whaaaat ? the tumbler has retired ? no way !" and lots of guys (builders & investors) checking for tumblers in B&M shops to get one set (or many).

Last week-end I saw some panic here and there on the internet. A little sad I would say for the builders but HEY, this set is 18months old, a buyer had 2 Xmas seasons and 1 birthday to have a reason to get one so I'm not so sad...

Again, EU investors who purchase their sets at the very last moment have been caught by surprise. I'm sure this set is not as hoarded here as it could be in the USA.

if the memory serves me right there was a talk at least 6 months ago of this beast's retirement by the end of 2015. that and the Volvo, still waiting for the latter... evreyone had plenty of time to stock up

I'll start loading up in 3 years...

This mentality is why some people have to scramble around last minute and some even miss the boat. How do you even know it's gonna be around in 3 years? What the harm in buying a few here and there starting now?

The Rock knew the score, once again. Respect.
