waddamon Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Well, pretty quiet around here today. I finished updating the portfolio and the piece count crossed the 7 figure mark. Now just need to get the value to the same place, haha. Sets to do it 1089 i think. Doesn't really matter and is noteall important but what the heck. Carry on. 1 Quote
waddamon Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 Yea, not sure exactly i would have to add them up but maybe 250-275 exclusives. Quote
MartinP Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Over 1,000,000 Lego pieces! That is a great milestone for you. Congrats on reaching 7-figures. Quote
segreto Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 If pieces were dollars... Anyway, great job and awesome counting there. Quote
waddamon Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 The only thing i might sell this Christmas are first wave friends stuff, excluding riding camp and olivias house. Nothing else will see the market for at least 4 years. In a prior life I did buy and sell high end comics around the world. IT was good while it lasted, early days of CGC. Now everything is graded. legone Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Mine too reached 7-figure* earlier this year. Oh wait! You're not talking about annual income? (*) in Zimbabwean dollars 2 Quote
waddamon Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 No seveb figure income for me yet, here is to diligence though. You just never know. Quote
legone Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Serious question: at what point you have (or plan to have) positive cash flow (selling is equal or more in $ value than buying)? Thx. Quote
waddamon Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Well in unrealized gain the whole portfolio is up around 50%. I don't care about cashflow for this portfolio. My business is sufficent for that. This portfolio is all about appreciation over time. No need to sell short term or flip anything. I am not sure how old friends will sustain against the new sets over time, thus i may sell this year. As of now they are fantastic performers. The big ones have not retired yet. I am hoping they do this year so i can ascertain the potential of first wave sets. 1 Quote
Ed Mack Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'm not a long term believer in Friends sets and I have really started to move away from the theme. I am a long term investor and I just can't see Friends sets appreciating to high enough levels. I think they are great short term sets though. These sets were designed for flippers around the holidays. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker 2 Quote
legodelorean Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 If pieces were dollars... Anyway, great job and awesome counting there. Well, if each piece is $0.07 then it may not be a million, but it's $70,630. I'd be happy with that. 1 Quote

TheOrcKing Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Dang dude, that is a builders dream to yield so many pieces. Bravo. I think they are great short term sets though. These sets were designed for flippers around the holidays.I believe a select handful will continue doing well in the future especially if many of the pieces in certain colors stay exclusive and desirable. Right now I am mainly curious how Heartlake Stables will perform as it appears to be slowly reaching upwards from the $70 range to $80 come this holiday season. Quote
Alcarin Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Congrats.... in terms of investments I am yet to break 5 figure mark...... Quote
waddamon Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 So, I added up the number of sets exceeding a 950 piece count. The total is 345 sets. The majority of those are exclusives. To answer the question on comics. In the early days EBAY was an auction Mecca of ungraded books. For the discerning grading eye you could pick up lots of key books that were ungraded, turn around and pay the fees to CGC and then sell them at 2-10 times investment price. The market was not as saturated with graded high end books. As time goes by the number of high grade books has increased. As a comic collector I prefer ungraded books. EBAY is now basically a store with few auctions. They control the payment flow, scalping even more in fees. No such thing as EBAY bucks existed in the past. What put them on the map is exactly what they have moved away from, it is a shame really. Quote
newbie77 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 congratulation on the first million hope you will reach second million sooner.... Quote

waddamon Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 Well, after my current allocations I have decided to hang my hat until Thanksgiving time frame. I have all that I planned and then some, of the key investments that I see. I will pursue additional sets for allocation completion in the first half of 2015. There should be quite a few good retirements within my portfolio this year, in fact I expect that 70% of my portfolio will be retired by the end of 2014. I am hoping the big 5 are done by the end of the year, DS, SSD, TB, GE, VW. I will be a happy camper if these are gone much less the rest of my retirement expectations. I feel strongly about the decisions and weighting that I have. A few odd ball bets, that only time will tell. The rest seems quite stable with great potential. As it sits today the whole nut is sitting at an unrealized gain of 37.56%. I expect that will move much higher as the year wraps up and into 2015 and the retirement slots are filled. I stuck pretty closely to my plan minus the few odd balls and feel very good about the slow and steady appreciation over time. I encourage folks to research, be patient, stick to your plan and invest wisely. If it is your lunch money do not invest it! Waddamon 4 Quote
