STAR WARS VII - "The Force Awakens" - Movie Discussion

Saw it again today with my son but in 3D. Now I've read the movie novelization, that Ep 7 $20 Art of Star Wars book, and watched the film twice.  I now rank it 4th in the series instead of 3.

My minor complaints other than yet another Death Star...

1) Everything force-related came way to easily for Rey.  She must've had a rolled up Force for Dummies in her staff.

2) what happened to Maz?  That character is cool and quickly disappeared during the battle.  Hope she survives.  Same Capt. Phasma.  We know she survives if the Ep 8 casting news articles are correct.  I would have liked her to fight someone...show some spunk instead of being supposedly put in the trash.

These complaints about Rey are driving me up the wall.  Consider:

-She was at the jedi temple massacre in the flashback and may have had substantial training (then a memory wipe).

-Her mom was probably a Jedi if she's Luke's kid, therefore very good genetics, better than Kylo Ren.

-Anakin (probably her grandpa) was the only human who could podrace and he had no training.

-Kylo gets shot in the stomach by the bow caster which caused multiple stormtroopers to explode in the air.  He survives due to his dark side power (think of Vader catching han's blaster fire in his hand in Empire) but he is very injured and bleeding.

It would have been more appropriate to see her fight some kind of creature in the trash compactor like in ep4 :P

Other than episode vii being a rehash of iv, the main issue with this episode vii is that it was not supposed to exist. The story was to end at vi. Episode vii did not have a Star Wars feel to it, even the light sabers did not sound the same. I thought the movie was choppy and had no flow.

It´s been all about the money since A New Hope. So long as there are bums on seats the saga will go on and on and on.

In order for Episode IV to be successful and to continue launching the trilogy it had to at least a somewhat decent movie. IMO, with episode vii bringing back the old cast, people were going to watch it regardless and it did not matter if the movie was bad.

I prefer the current speed of learning the force by Rey. Because at this rate, she will be able to execute highly advanced Jedi moves by Episode 9. Luke was such a slow learner that at end of Episode 6, he can't even handle electric shocks or levitate large objects with ease. Luke fighting Rancor in Jabba's Palace was uninspiring, to say to least. I hope to see Jedis fight like the old republic mini movie.

It is a starkiller base, not a death star! There are enough key differences that makes starkiller base an entirely new weapon system. If you say starkiller base is like a death star, then any large spacecraft is also a death star.

Except that Lucas, despite later denials, talked about Episodes 7, 8 and 9 in 1980-1983.

And what about the Indiana Jones saga? I mean, you can´t blame a 2 trick pony from wringing every last cent from their successful franchises  - Vin Diesel would be jealous at having two to choose from!

Indiana Jones saga? They haven't made another Indiana Jones movie since 1989.

If Episode 7 is a rehash of 6, then how is it that 7 does not have "a Star Wars feel to it"? Your statement is quite contradictory.

It was not a bad movie. Come on guys!

Let us just stop comparing TFA to ANH. If there were no previous Star Wars movies TFA would have been groundbreaking

The ET aspect ruined it for me . Ok moving on from IJ.

I agree on the second part. I think I posted that either earlier here or the other thread .
