Are you talking about the wreckage on the planet of Jakku?  Because that is from the Battle of Jakku, which takes place one year after the events of Return of the Jedi.

No, my original post was in response to why Rey did not believe in existence of Jedi.  By Rey's time, the Jedi have been mostly extinct for 50 years  thanks to Order 66.

Then, she says to herself when captured, "I heard about this persuasive wave your hand sh!t.  Crap, I can't waive my hand.  Maybe I can be persuasive."

Kylo Ren basically showed her how via his interrogation technique (it was basically Force Persuassion x10000).  Can't blame a girl for being a quick study

Gotcha.  Yeah, Luke was apparently known much more as the rebel pilot who destroyed the first Death Star more than he was as a Jedi and his accomplishments on the second Death Star.  I mean, all that stuff in the throne room wasn't really ever broadcast or known by anyone.  As far as the galaxy knows, the Emperor just died in the explosion.

Exactly, she had no idea about her abilities to use the force until Kylo showed her and opened her mind to it.

If the Empire's bureaucracy and governmental communications wings were worth their mettle, they would have completely eliminated all evidence of Luke Skywalker decapitating the Empire. In fact, they could have easily spun it to Darth Vader sacrificing himself to save the Emperor from the Rebels and both dying in an accident or as martyrs taking down a rebel terrorist for the better good of the Empire.

One thing I just realized, since my son and I just watched Return of the Jedi, is that I do not get Luke.

He can stand up to the Emperor (the super duper darkside guy)  but he runs away from Kylo Ren.

To start the movie with a crawl about Luke 'running away' and everyone is looking for him seems silly. Yes Kylo Ren is his nephew but really? I do not get it.

I never liked Luke. Always seemed to be an borderline-inept irritating little git that just happened to be force-sensitive.

Losing his padawans broke Luke like losing the Jedi council broke Yoda

I can see that, but I felt at the end of Jedi, Luke was finally the strong Jedi we all wanted.

Going off of what you just wrote.... Yoda hides and 'soda' Luke. (Just like the original trilogy)

I don't like how this one character is too overpowered... in my opinion there should have been some more stuggle to get these powers. It makes jedi training look like some silly stuff nobody actually needs.

I think that is part of the overall mystery that will be revealed later. Who she is and what her history is .... why is she so powerful with the force, and has she had training before ... before she was abandoned by her parents .... was she a force sensitive child that was hidden? There were 2 story lines in the Clone Wars and in Rebels that talks about the empire going after force sensitive younglings.

I just feel like it all came too easy to her and ren has to struggle too much. Even with that wound I think I would have prefered a joint effort victory over him rather than what happend... it just made him look even weaker.

Another thing I really really dislike is Captain Phasma... the rebels always seem to have so much more willpower o.O this could have been a great character. But what did they do with it? Throw it in the trash converter... (literally)

Interesting I found him to be the weak link in the movie.

I felt he was a big baby with his little tantrums.

so was many tyrants like Hitler, Kim Jong Un, Cheney etc.

Yeah - Phasma was a disappointment. We can hope that we much more of her later in the trilogy ....

it is a reflection of today's internet generation where things have to be instant. No such thing as training and working hard to get what you want. Everything has to be available at the press of a button. So Rey gaining jedi power is just about holding luke's lightsaber ...

I suspect much of scenes with Phasma was deleted, and there will be blueray/netflix releases down the road with deleted scenes, and fans will lapped it up paying through the nose for extra 10 min.

I concur.... so they hire the game of thrones actress to walk around briefly only to get captured (easily) and then thrown in a trash compactor?

And after you lose your second death star... don't you think a third one would be less vulnerable to sabotage?

If I was a stormtrooper I would have the saying "I hope they don't death star this place."

So real life people to a movie villain... I am lost on what you are trying to say.

totally agree ... can't they come up with another super weapon ? maybe a missile ?  A super ship ? A super crystal ? Super virus ? Something  different ... without an oscillator or a vent ....

Ren is using the jedi mind trick before she even knew what the jedi mind trick was.....

Luke too old

Anakin too old

Ren ... picks up the force like a cold. (may be it was the lightsaber transfer? - midoclorians (spelling -5) again.

Anymore DS type of weapons and I'm walking out .. No joke . And this has been asked before, but how will the first order regroup quickly ?? One could ( should ?) assume that their top commanders and engineers are no more .

Hux is the son of an Imperial general. It took the remnants an entire general (maybe even 2?) to regroup and start appearing as a threat to the New Republic.

I'm going to get the book and read it. It might provide some extra insight.
